Analysis and Results of the Music QuestionnaireFor this particular task, I had to create a questionnaire that was based around music magazines and a specific music genre that I had chosen which would go towards the creation of my very own music magazine.

The questions featured on the questionnaire included:

Are you familiar with the genre of Electronic Dance Music (EDM)?

Would you count EDM as one of the main genres of music that you listen to?

Ranging from 1(most familiar) to 10 (least familiar), order the following artists of the EDM genre listed below that you know more about or would listen to.

How often do you attend raves/clubs per year? In general, do you buy and read music magazines? What would you like to feature in a music magazine

mostly? As an ending summary, explain how music plays a

part in your life (if not, explain why).

After the questions were carefully checked over by me and the teachers, I was ready to hand these out for people to fill out. However, due to complications on the timing with printing, I was only able to hand out a few of these. Therefore, I had posted the survey online for people to complete digitally (via SurveyMonkey) which meant more results coming

in for me to analyse.

In total, I had around 20 responses that were fully complete and ready for me to utilize and come up with a basis of a general idea of what the participants have inputted in the questionnaire for me to have to decide and have consideration for the content of my music magazine.

ResultsThese were the results for the question: Are you familiar with the genre of Electronic Dance Music (EDM)?

Looking at the outcome, 17 of the participants had voted ‘YES’, while the remaining 3 had voted ‘NO’. This goes to show that this specific genre of music is very much well known considering that the genre itself is quite recent and fresh.

Looking at the outcome, 11 out of the 20 participants had voted ‘YES’, while the rest of those who voted ‘NO’. This indicates that although the music genre is well known, there are still plenty of people who don’t favour it much.

The artists included were 2NE1, Avicii, Basshunter, David Guetta, Major Lazer, Nicky Romero, Skrillex, Steve Aoki, The Prodigy, and Zedd. They were ranked on average as:

These were the results for the question: How often do you attend raves/clubs per year?Looking at the outcome, it appears that three quarters of the participants don’t attend clubs/raves or only go to one per year. While only 4 attending more than five. This data shows that not many people are attending these sorts of events, which is where the EDM genre is mostly played.

These were the results for the question: In general, do you buy and read music magazines?

Looking at the outcome, 60% had voted ‘NO’ while the rest had voted for ‘YES’. This shows that not many people are buying music magazines.

These were the results for the question: What would you like to feature the most in a music magazine?

The outcome is that most of the participants wanted exclusive interviews. This shows that for my music magazine, most of the content should be based around exclusive interviews as the data displayed in the chart above shows that this will be considered to be popular.

Since this was more to do with the participant’s own opinion, the results were very individual and unique to each other. For example, one participant had written, “It helps me think, it helps me write, it's just a big benefactor to my writing and my work. Music is important now more than ever, it advances a person's ability to grasp an emotion or anything really. Without music to fuel my creativity, I'm sure my writing would not be as interesting as it is now”, while another another had written, “It provides me with worlds to escape to that are far from my own, while remaining instantly relatable to things I feel all the time.”

This goes to show that music has different affects on people and range from something that motivates to something that completely inspires and changes their perceptions on things.
