Culminating Presentation Overview

Who am I? Where am I going?

How am I going to get there?

Your AHS Culminating Presentation is an opportunity to demonstrate your growth socially, academically, and professionally. Much of what is needed to accomplish this goal has been completed in Advisory during your years at AHS. Your AHS Student Portfolio is a documentation of this process and will serve as the focal point for your presentation.

The AHS Culminating Presentation has been modified during past years to more accurately reflect personal accomplishments and goals. These changes ensure that new state requirements for graduation have been met. Using your Advisory Portfolio, you will create a presentation that effectively addresses the three guiding questions: Who am I? Where am I going? How am I going to get there? An outline will be provided to structure your presentation.

While developing your Culminating Presentation, you will also have the opportunity to participate in activities such as a job shadow, career project, or other senior experience. These supplemental activities should be used to directly enhance your presentation of the three guiding questions.

The use of a visual aid is required for your Culminating Presentation. This might include a PowerPoint or Google Slides, poster boards, and/or components from your Portfolio. You may use note cards to assist in your organization and presentation. In this manual, you will find specific directions and requirements, including an outline of the key components required for your presentation.

We are looking forward to supporting you as you create your Culminating Presentation. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the following people:

Portfolio Grading At each grade level, students will be given an Advisory Portfolio Checklist and will submit assignments by designated deadlines. Advisory teachers will check each assignment to determine if the student has met standard. If a student has not met standard on a mandatory item, it must be redone prior to Portfolio submission.

Your final Portfolio will be graded using the following Criteria:

Grade: Criteria:

Senior Culminating Presentation

Purpose: In grades 9 through 11, students had the opportunity to facilitate Student-Led Conferences. The

Student-Led Conferences provided the opportunity for students to share their social and academic progress with their parent(s) or guardian(s). Students used their Portfolio to begin answering the three guiding questions:

Who am I? Where am I going? How am I going to get there?

In the 12th grade, the Senior Culminating Presentation is an opportunity for students to present and provide in depth answers to the three guiding questions above, regarding their high school experience and post-graduation plans. Through the Culminating Presentation students will demonstrate that they are college/work ready, with plans for their transition into life after high school. Additionally, students will learn to develop good verbal communication skills that they will use throughout their lives. The presentation evaluation panels will include AHS staff and community members.

Description: Students will develop a Senior Presentation that answers the three guiding questions:

Who Am I? (As a worker, citizen, and learner)

Where am I going?

How am I going to get there?

Requirements: 1. Students will prepare the outline on the next page, to organize their presentation. 2. A visual aid must be included in the presentation. This might include a PowerPoint or

Google Slides, poster boards, and/or components of the Portfolio. a. Note cards may be used to assist in your presentation.

3. The presentation will be graded by panel members, using a grading evaluation sheet.

A Google Slides template and grading evaluation sheet will be discussed at the Senior Culminating Presentation Information Session, in Advisory and/or in English classrooms. The template can be used to develop and organize the presentation and it will outline the key points to be discussed. The grading evaluation sheet will provide students with a clear understanding of how the presentation will be evaluated and the expectations to receive a passing grade.
