Industrial Placement• Industrial Placement is also known as

– Professional Training, Year-in-Industry or Sandwich Year.

• The scheme is available on two of our degree programmes:

– G990 Mathematics, Operational Research and Statistics (MORS)

– G111 Mathematics and its Applications (MAPS)

• Provides an opportunity for students to work in industry.

• Taken between second year and final year of degree scheme.

• Placement students are treated the same as any other employee.

Fees: £1800 for home students (50% overseas).

Assessment• Assessment of industrial placement is difficult due to the variety of

placements undertaken by different students, and a lack of academic control over the learning environment.

• Students are given the responsibility to demonstrate that they have achieved the learning outcomes, based on reflective accounts of their own learning in the workplace.

• Assessment is based on evidence that demonstrates competency in each of the six categories defined in the learning outcomes

• To support the evidence you provide, your line manager will be asked to write a short summary of your progress over the year.
