Dear Socialite Media Team,

I refer further to the advertisement for a position at Socialite Media re my BA Mass Communication (Journalism and Public Relations) degree through Curtin University’s PRSC. I am a hardworking, professional individual that would use this opportunity to benefit your department to the best of my ability.

I believe that my current work experience with WA’s Department for Communities, Lifeline WA, a local newspaper, national magazine, my status as a third year Curtin University Bachelor of Mass Communications (Public Relations and Journalism) student and a member of Curtin’s Public Relations Student Chapter makes me an ideal applicant for work experience and a possible future placement within your organisation.

My experience in communications, combined with my courses in journalism, public relations, tourism management, professional writing, advertising and professional research have convinced me that a career in social media is one in which I want to evolve. More importantly, a placement with Socialite Media would benefit both myself and your company. Socialite Media has an excellent reputation for quality and originality and I believe that my blend of education, experience and interest will make me an asset to your department.

I am looking forward to hearing from you. Should you have any questions about this application, you may contact me via mobile (0426 251 315) or via email ([email protected]).

Sales SkillsI work in hospitality where sales skills are a must. I know how to speak with clients (how to make them feel important), and have had years of experience of going the extra mile for your client and how to think fast in various situations (problematic or otherwise).

A strong presence in the social media worldI have a social presence on all software on the advertisement for the position, as well as understanding a WHOLE lot more sites through my internship with the Department for Communities.

Communication on social media - know the languageKnowing the language within social media is important as you need to converse with the target publics the same way that they are communicating online. This means understanding your public and getting them to want to engage with you. From my personal and professional experience, I have a good understanding of the language social media should be conducted in. Knowing the language also means that you have to think creatively- which I demonstrated through my social media volunteer facebook competition with Lifeline WA.

Be confident and know all the in's and out's with social media

- Quick- Fast typing - Attention to immense DETAIL and knowing the little things count (Proof! Proof! Proof!)- Writing Skills

All my skills come from my degree and through various work experience with a wide range of organisations. Social Media is ever changing and as such, this resume will probably be made redundant by the time the next

advertisement goes out, but hey- that's why you gotta love social media.

Volunteer Marketing and Events Assistant Lifeline WA (2011) May 6th to July 25th 2011

My work experience is primarily in relation to the iiNet Black Diamond Ball in the Fundraising and Events and Marketing Departments in which there is a strong emphasis on community and key stakeholders relations in order to promote the message of the inaugural event for the not-for-profit organisation. Working for Lifeline WA I predominantly use the internet to research items needed for upcoming events, the creation of EDM to contact and thank donors, as well as telephone skills to contact various businesses about event items and members of the community that have a connection to Lifeline WA. I have had to capitalise on my strong research skills to contact businesses for issues on events organisations and have also had the opportunity to use social media to promote awareness of the organisation, its events and its messages. I have undergone other activities within this marketing and events role which can be available at request.

“I hired Amber as a Volunteer Marketing & Events Assistant at Lifeline WA in April 2011 in the lead up to the iiNet Black Diamond Ball - Lifeline WA's largest event for the year.

Amber was put in charge of getting auction items donated as well as handling media enquiries about the ball. She conducted the above tasks with outstanding enthusiasm and resourcefulness which resulted in some stand-out auction items.

Amber's work ethic was fantastic and the results she achieved while working for me displayed this. Should Lifeline WA ever have the resources available, I would hire Amber in an instant.” August 29, 2011

To whom it may concern,

I have known Amber Carton for approximately one year. Amber worked for Ranger Outdoors as a Sales Assistant whilst I was the manager there.

Amber has at all times displayed a high level of autonomy, responsibility and motivation. I have relied on Amber to fulfill duties well beyond the scope of

her employment.

I have found Amber to have a bright and bubbly personality, but more importantly she has shown herself to be extremely mature for her age.

If the opportunity arose I would employ Amber again without hesitation.

Should you require any further information please feel free to contact me on [email protected]

Yours truly,

Kevin Walker.
