22. Financial Report: The Report of Receipts for July 21, 2016 through
August 26, 2016, in the amount of $889,394.54, was received. Board/Superintendent Comments: Robert Schwandt ~ Mr. Schwandt reviewed the City’s Day of Service for 9/11 and was pleased that the Alvord Unified School District was well represented. Mr. Schwandt believes a Grant Writer would be valuable to Alvord, especially for the music program and instruments. Mr. Schwandt thanked Angela Gallardo-Hopkins for her work with the Harmony Project as well. Julie A. Moreno ~ Mrs. Moreno thanked the Board for the opportunity to serve on the Corona Chamber’s Executive Leadership Roundtable. Mrs. Moreno congratulated the students who were recognized at the Riverside Police Foundation’s Golden Badge Awards. Art Kaspereen, Jr. ~ Mr. Kaspereen enjoyed the Alvord Educational Foundation’s 30th Anniversary Celebration and stated it was great to celebrate with them and to see some who have served on the foundation for decades. Mr. Kaspereen highly recommends getting involved with the foundation. Ben Johnson ~ Mr. Johnson is attending the Riverside County Office of Education’s Excellence through Equity Conference today and tomorrow and is stated that it is probably one of the best experiences he has had for a long time. Mr. Johnson reviewed some highlights of the conference. Mr. Johnson would like to see Alvord participate in the Black Voice and Black Railroad. Carolyn M. Wilson ~ Mrs. Wilson thanked and congratulated the Harmony Project representatives, Beth Schwandt and Dr. Sid Salazar for the presentation tonight. Mr. Wilson asked everyone to calendar the upcoming ACE Parent Meeting at McAuliffe Elementary School in the MPR on Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m. So far 100 parents have RSVP’d their attendance. Mrs. Wilson would like to see the Board there so they can assist with the meeting. Mrs. Wilson thanked Dr. Salazar and Kathleen Kennedy for their assistance and participation with ACE. Dr. Salazar ~ Dr. Salazar attended his first session for Leadership Riverside last Friday followed by an Alumni event in the evening. During the Leadership Riverside session, the groups performed skits. Dr. Salazar’s group performed a skit on providing equitable learning opportunities for all students. Dr. Salazar is pleased that Mr. Johnson is attending the Excellence through Equity Conference and stated that last year the District sent approximately 80-100 participants to the conference and it was impactful.
