Hello and welcome to the season!
In one short year we’ll be celebrating our 75th season presenting classical music in Bremerton. Reflecting on this approaching milestone, I am reminded that Bremerton Symphony has much to be proud of.
We have a wonderful group of volunteers. Our musicians, both instrumental and choral, give us season after season of quality performances. They donate countless hours of their time in practice and rehearsal, with excellent results. Maestro Alan Futterman leads Bremerton Symphony Orchestra to musical
heights never imagined at our inception. Chorale Director LeeAnne Campos masterfully conducts her finely-tuned company of volunteer voices. The combined work of these two ensembles continues to thrill audiences with old favorites and delight them with new works.
We boast an extensive youth program. Michael Woods does an outstanding job of coordinating a multi-level curriculum that prepares our young musicians for several performances yearly. Their ensemble playing not only advances them musically but also provides them with cooperative skills and cognitive abilities that really make a difference in learning.
Bremerton Symphony’s brass quintet and string quartet participate in community events throughout the year. The entire orchestra plays concerts each winter for over 1,500 students who bus in with their entire class to the concert hall. Each spring, the symphony holds a concerto competition for our area’s young musicians, the winners commanding soloist spots with the orchestra.
Bremerton Symphony Association’s board and I see it as part of our mission to provide and foster musical performances throughout the area. Our orchestra and chorale now give outreach concerts throughout the West Sound. Our musicians work yearly with various performing arts groups in Kitsap County – groups such as Peninsula Dance Theater and Kitsap Opera. We’re currently making plans with these groups and others, including Poulsbo Community Orchestra, to perform with us as we celebrate our 75th anniversary next year.
I am very glad to be a part of Bremerton Symphony! I love our volunteers’ joy in providing live classical music to our community, and I hope you will join me at as many concerts and events as you can. Please encourage your friends and all aficionados of live classical music to join you at our concerts.
We hope to see you again soon,Deborah Housen, President
