prESIDENT’S rEpOrTIt is with delight that I present my second report as President of Club Ashfield. It is with great pleasure that I announce that the Club has recorded its best ever result. For further details on the figures and the increases please refer to the Finance Director’s Report. This year’s Annual Mass and Luncheon was also a great success, the feedback was very positive. It was good to see our members and guests enjoy the day and to meet the recipients of our Club Grants. The Club was able to donate approximately $110,000 in donations. I encourage you to take the time to view the list of recipients of the club grants found elsewhere in the report. I would like to thank Bishop Brady for attending the function and his kind words. This year has been another great year for Club Ashfield and some of the highlights have been:• Massive Scooter Promotion in which we gave away two scooters

in July to the value of $5,000. It was a fantastic and exciting day for the Club and we hope to feature many more promotions in the coming year.

• This time last year we commenced our renovations which included making 11 Charlotte Street part of the main club premises. The renovations have transformed many areas of the Club. Proving most popular is the new TAB and kids area and the recently completed outdoor area.

I would like to thank the 7 sub clubs for their participation in the last twelve months. It was with regret that the mixed indoor bowls was disbanded on 30/6/2014 due to decrease in membership. The remaining 6 sub clubs are always looking for new members, so if anyone is interested please contact the club for further information. We have also seen a change in the catering, our new caterers are VIBO under the management of GOV. We look forward to working together to provide members and guests with first class dining and functions and function facilities.I would like to thank my fellow directors and our administration staff under the guidance of Robert Cassano and assisted by Vincent Di Maio, Irene Giorgianni, Marc Cuiuli and the staff associated with the Club’s operations. On behalf of the Board, myself and all associated with the Club, I wish everyone a happy, holy and joyous Christmas and a prosperous 2015.

CLUB ASHFIELD 2013 ANNUAL rEpOrTCLUB ASHFIELD 2013 ANNUAL rEpOrT www.clubashfield.com.auwww.clubashfield.com.au 2120

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICEr’S rEpOrTWelcome to the 51st Annual Report of the Ashfield Catholic and Community Club Ltd, trading as Club Ashfield. The report reflects a significant year for the Club in terms of growth and working towards delivering the Club’s strategic long term goals. This year’s operating activity levels have been the highest experienced by the Club to date and with the continued support of the Board, Staff and Members, we have moved through this period of high activity with a rewarding outcome. An integral part of our 5-year strategy plan was to renovate the Club in stages. The Club has now completed stage 3 of the master plan, greatly investing into structural changes and improvements on the ground level and level 1. On the ground level, there has been the development of the new TAB area, a relaxing outdoor area that is set with a backdrop of sandstone features and water fountains and new bathroom facilities. There have also been substantial renovations to Level 1 with the addition of a brand new kid’s area which caters for children up to 12 years. The area includes a play gym, PlayStation games, Xbox games and soft flooring for younger children. The Club has also revamped the Function rooms, with the addition of a new board room with state - of- the - art facilities, and the creation of another function room which can cater for special occasions. Amanda O’Grady our Functions Manager has also been liaising with our caterers to develop exceptional packages for weddings, special occasions and corporate events. In addition to the structural renovations, there have been significant changes to Club Ashfield’s dining and Café as part of our overall strategy plan. With the introduction of VIBO Bistro, a new catering company providing authentic Italian food and flavours from Southern Italy to the residents of Ashfield. The new Bistro includes a delicious menu of $9 Lunch Specials from Monday to Saturday; selection of pizzas and our scrumptious a la carte menu. Café on Charlotte is also continuing to go from strength to strength, with the recognition of another Inner West Finalist Award, third year running. The Café is also thriving with the introduction of catering, serving the council and local businesses in the area. Offering a delicious selection of wood fired sourdough sandwiches, Turkish bread and tortilla wrap varieties with tantalising filings. As well as fruit platters and sweet platters that are always served fresh. In conjunction with the improvements and modifications to VIBO Bistro and the Café, the Clubs’ Entertainment line-up has also seen some changes to its Friday and Saturday evenings. There will be an introduction of new acts taking the stage in the coming months, including Black Pearl a four piece all girl outfit from Sydney coming together to perform and sing all the latest hits in their unique and exciting acoustic style. Alternating on guitar and percussion, the four girls take turns in lead vocals and harmonising, keeping the

songs and the performance exciting and interactive. As well as Gareth Jay, a versatile Sydney based musician renowned for his composition and live performance, creating complex sound scores for recordings, performance, film and theatre works. Jono, Loz & Den and Snez will also be part of the new entertainment line-up.Promotions are also diversifying to satisfy members’ requests. With the introduction of Mahjong on Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm, this strategic game of skill attracts close to 40 people every week. Each person is playing for a $500 prize pool each week, and Cash over $10,000 at the end of the tournament via Australian Mahjong League. We are also continuing with our fantastic raffle promotions on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Our raffles include meat trays, seafood trays and Woolworth’s vouchers worth thousands of dollars each week. Other great Club promotions include Monday Members Cash Draws, Bingo and Trivia on Wednesdays. In closing, I would like to sincerely thank the Board of Directors, Chief Operating Officer Vincent Di Maio, Chief Finance Officer Irene Giorgianni, Finance Administration Assistant Rebecca Tofalakis, Assistant Operations Marc Cuiuli, Functions Manager Amanda O’Grady and all the fantastic staff that make up our team at Club Ashfield. I would also like to warmly welcome and thank Tijen Salis who has joined the Club as our Marketing Manager. Her contribution to the Club to date has been exceptional. In addition, a special thanks to the team at Café on Charlotte and our Club Duty Managers. But most importantly, I would like to thank our Members, the people that make our friendly and inclusive Club a truly fantastic community venue.

U12 (Coach Simon Elwig pollock & Manager Marianne Begitis).

A great developing side. A good year with Ben Newall (rep player). They made the semis.U14 Green (Coach John Marangon & Manager Michael Deller)

Lots of new players and a side dominated by underage players yet still managed to make it to semi-finals. This team had most improvements in players across the board, great team spirit from all players. A number of players made CWSCA Representative and President’s Cup sides.U14 Gold (Coach Dinesh Divakar & Manager Judith Hooper) (this team has a fabulous Coach & parents, undefeated for 4 seasons U9, U10, U11, & U12). Fabulous Marrickville finally beat them in Grand Final.

I am pleased with overall performance of boys playing an age group up this season and ending up Grand Final runners up in Division 2. All of them have enjoyed playing together.

Overall they played as a team and learnt a lot from the wins /losses. Special thanks to James for supporting me in every training session and sometimes running the training during my absence. Judith who has been managing the team for two years has been outstanding and I thank her for all her help. Fiona, as usual, you have been wonderful taking care of the boys with your thoughtfulness. Hoping for a great season next year.Dinesh DivakarU16 (Coach ramesh Chinnappa & Manager Gabrielle Brown)

The 2013-14 Under 16 team was a lovely team of boys who put teamwork and friendship ahead of winning the competition. Whilst we only won two matches during the season, there was a lot of skill development and marked improvement from a number of players. Our team Captain, Viraj Desai, was awarded the ACC joint Junior Cricketer of the 2013-14 season.

As a result of ACC parents and coaches efforts a good number of our players represent the district at Representative cricket level. The Junior Cricketer of the year was jointly awarded to Ritvik Dinesh and Viraj Desai. The Sportsperson of the Year was awarded to Luke Marangon from the Under 14 Green team.

Dinesh Divakar our ACC U14 Gold coach worked as 2013/14 volunteer CwSCA junior rep Convenor as well as his Club coaching tasks so he has gone beyond and above.

Junior Vice president, Coaching Coordinator and Grants Coordinator John Marangon has worked tirelessly to improve ACC junior cricket and has given much support to coaches, players and their families.

Junior association delegate Michael Deller has well represented ACC junior interests at CWSCA meetings every two weeks.

Fiona Ledden ACC Secretary for Juniors Senior report.

Overall, a successful year for the Club. Six teams contested the CWSCA completion with teams from Division 2 - Division 6. Four teams contested the semi-finals with our Division 3 team reaching the final however were defeated in a close scoring match. We welcomed many new players to the Club and look forward to a bigger and more successful season 2014/15.

Peter Maxwell, Kurt Ravn and Paul Johnston all received plaques for their outstanding efforts over their playing careers. Peter Maxwell, Michael Tuttle, Brad Whitfield, Sam Crowl, Michael Davidson and Andrew Squillacioti all scored centuries and Ben Butcher took 7 wkts in an innings.

Peter Maxwell, in a close decision, was also awarded the trophy for ACC’s Senior Cricketer of the year. Congratulations Peter for a great all round effort.

This season saw the continued progress of Club juniors in senior ranks, and juniors playing in the senior competition for the first time. It has been this rich resource that has enabled our Club to compete effectively in the CWSCA competitions and we look forward to that continuing.

ACC Cricket Club gratefully acknowledges the support of Club Ashfield especially, and of Ashfield Council in providing and maintaining the Centenary Park, Ashfield Park and Hammond Park fields.

I thank all players for their commitment and good sportsmanship during the season and look forward to them playing next season. Our Club welcomes players of all abilities with season 2014/15 to commence early/mid-September.

GOLF CLUBAs a sub-club of our “parent”, Club Ashfield, we are bound by the laws and regulations governing the operation of an “Association”. We accept the definition of an association as a group of persons, having common views, associated or organised for a common end. The main feature of an association is that it is meant for a definite purpose and objectives, which are realised through the co-operative efforts of its members.

The ‘purpose’ of our golf club is to provide quality value-based golfing opportunities for our members.

The ‘objectives’ are:

• Player motivation and satisfaction

• range of events – interesting, varied and challenging for all levels

• honour boards and rewards – recognising achievements

• results and publicity

• rules, handicap, and course management

• Membership Base – growth, retention and equal opportunity

• Financial Management - financially self-sufficient and audit ready via financial tracking and reporting

• Club Reputation - of which members can be proud

• promotion of the game of golf

• legal and societal responsibilities

• presentation to and perception by others

• partnerships and sponsorship

Our Association is owned by the members, and managed on their behalf through a committee of elected members. In a way we are running a business, albeit a very small and not-for-profit business, a business just the same, and although we all perform our duties as committee members in a voluntary mode, to those who monitor our performance against legislation and societal obligations, expect our adherence and cooperation without excuses.

As a management committee of the Club Ashfield Golf Club, we are accountable to the members, and in executing our obligations, there should be no compromise.

In the past twelve months we have enjoyed reasonable success, with our average attendances around 22. The courses played during those 12 months are: Boomerang, Jamberoo, Calderwood Valley, Massey Park, Rosnay, Georges River, Dunheved, Woodville, Bowral and Marrickville. In addition to the regular courses, a couple of our enterprising members arranged for a week of golf on some courses

along the Murray River, at which 10 of our members enjoyed some good golf and, from what we’ve heard back, even better après golf. A similar event will be arranged again for March 2015, and we’re also looking to introduce some ‘one-off’ additional games throughout the year.

Our regular competition is held monthly from February to November, inclusive, operating as a ‘gender-neutral’ club, catering for all levels of golfer. A fixture sheet of the scheduled events is provided to members at the last game of the year, and we are looking to get it published on the Club Ashfield website. At each event, except the Club Championships in October, and if there is a team event e.g. Ambrose, the following categories will apply: Men’s Singles, Ladies’ Singles and Medley 2BBB. There is also a nearest the pin (NTP) and/or drive and pitch (D&P) on 2 separate holes for both ladies and men. Major prizes for the monthly competition are in the form of Gift Cards, and other prizes are usually golf balls, as follows:

Winners of singles events $30

Runners up of singles events $15

Third & Fourth places 1 ball each

Winners 2BBB $20 each

Nearest the pin 1 ball (jackpots if not won)

Drive & Pitch 1 ball (jackpots if not won)

The Club Championships consist of an overall Club Champion for men and ladies, i.e. those in each gender with the best score on the day. Additionally there are Champions in A, B and C grades for both ladies and men, subject to a minimum of two players per grade, at the October event. Players will be allocated to grades after the results of the September event are processed.

The event for all Championships is scratch stroke. Prizes for both ladies and men are as follows:

Overall Club Champions $50 + personal trophy

A, B and C Grade Champions $30 + personal trophy

Runners Up $10

Third & Fourth places 1 ball each

There is no other competition held in conjunction with the Championships. Some cumulative competitions, designed to encourage members to play regularly, are held in conjunction with the monthly competitions as follows: The President’s Trophy for men and the Vice President’s Trophy for ladies are major trophies based on the results of the monthly singles competitions for which points are awarded. Prizes and trophies are as follows:

Congratulations to all, and good luck for 2014.

The Annual General Meeting was held in conjunction with the Annual Presentations following the Marrickville game on November 10, 2013. Many thanks to parent Club President, Helen McCartney, for attending and presiding over the meeting. The Committee for 2014 was elected as follows:

The Club would like to take this opportunity to thank the Directors of the Parent Club for their continuing support, without which the running of the Golf Club would not be possible.

TOASTMASTErSToastmasters Clubs provide members with the opportunity to develop their public speaking and leadership skills within a supportive environment, which includes structured educational goals and constructive feedback. Members also benefit through significant personal growth and increased self-confidence.

Ashfield Toastmasters Club is in its 8th year and over the past 12 months has maintained an active participation of 18 Toastmasters out of a total membership of 24. In that time members have earned 8 educational awards and the Club as a whole attained President’s Distinguished Club for the 8th consecutive year.

The Club meets on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month at 7pm, on Level 1 of the Ashfield Catholic and Community Club.

Each year four competitions are held – the Humorous Speech Contest, the Table Topics Contest, the Evaluation Contest, and the International Speech Contest. The winner of the International Speech Contest is known as the World Champion of Public Speaking. The contest final is held at the Annual International Convention – which in 2014 is being hosted in Kuala Lumpur, for the first time outside of the United States. The winners at Ashfield Club level were, for the Humorous Contest Monica Brewer, the Table Topics Contest Peter Dixon, the Evaluation Contest Alex Bormans, and the International Contest Christine Cargill.

The Ashfield Toastmasters Club benefits from the leadership of Area 48 Governor Jason Diamond, Lachlan Division Governor Sally Rippingale DTM, and District 70 Governor David Fisher DTM, and is proud to have as a member Region Advisor Philip Bendeich DTM.

The Ashfield Toastmasters Club is grateful for the support of the Ashfield Catholic and Community Club, particularly in the availability of a superb venue, without which the Club would not prosper to the degree that it does.

FISHING CLUBWell another year has passed and we are still Wishing [fishing] up the Hawkesbury River. The catches have had good and bad months, but diehard FISHOES still soldier on. Our completion for a CHAMPION, men’s and ladies, as well as, for biggest fish of the year, were close finishes .The end results were such that the CHAMPIONSHIP was a tie between Daniel Kumer and Joe Fin sharing the comp. The ladies was taken out by Laura Fulham, last but not forgotten, the biggest fish won by Bob Fulham.

We would like to thank the Parent Club for allowing us to hold two raffles, and all the club members who buy tickets. This does help pay for the hire of the boats and bus for which we are grateful.

It would be amiss not to thank the loyalty of all those who brave the elements to take to the water in all-weather [hot, cold, wet] and either come home with fish, or a very good story about the one that got away.

I would like to personally thank my committee for all their help; Anna [sec/treasurer], Daniel [driver], Ross and Bob committee members. At $40 an outing we would like to see more club members take up the game.

INDOOr BOwLSThe Indoor Bowls Club would like to thank all our past team members that have contributed to our enjoyable membership over the last 20 years.

Unfortunately, over the last 12 months players have been leaving and numbers have reduced. For this reason we are sad to announce that the team has decided to shut the doors and close the Indoor Bowls Club.

On Tuesday 24th June 2014 the last game of bowls was played.

On Tuesday 1st July 2014, we had our last ever get together to celebrate our history, joys and past experiences as a Club. It was a wonderful night and we are all sorry to say goodbye to the Indoor Bowls Club.
