British Cardiovascular Intervention Society
2010 is the second year of “Advanced Cardiovascular Intervention” and would have been the 16th year of “Advanced Angioplasty”. The programme for this year's Annual Meeting is as broad and busy as ever, taking account of major developments in the past year, including links with European initiatives, collaborative sessions with colleagues from imaging disciplines, technical updates and controversial sessions on the progress of TAVI and the need for MDTs in modern healthcare. A day of live transmissions will be hosted on Wednesday January 27th by Dr Andreas Baumbach and colleagues from the Bristol Heart Institute and incorporate taped cases (“ACI in a Box”) to provide enhanced educational value following the major success of this format at EuroPCR earlier this year. The general structure of the meeting, including the ever popular angio review sessions, has been retained under Mark De Belder's leadership, and the Young Research Worker's Prize will build on the success of the venture in 2009. Constructive comments regarding the format of the meeting and potential ideas for future improvement are always welcomed by The Programme Committee.
BCIS is a recognised affiliated group of the British Cardiovascular Society and also has strong links with The Department of Health and the Central Cardiac Audit Database. The increasing standing of BCIS on the world stage is also reflected in its continuing contribution to international collaborative research and its growing educational presence at key global events, notably EuroPCR and TCT, the premier European and US interventional meetings. A major restructuring of the running of the Society is underway and this will be discussed in detail at the AGM on Thursday evening (January 28th).
Membership is open to all those involved in the field of cardiac intervention. Application forms can be obtained from myself or any other Council member, or downloaded directly from the society website (www.bcis.org.uk) where further details of our activities and presentations for download from this and previous meetings are available. BCIS remains as vigorous as ever and we welcome the active participation of our membership.

Invitation
Mark de Belder- BCIS President
On behalf of the Programme Committee, I would like to invite you to Advanced Cardiovascular
Intervention 2010 which will be held at the London Hilton Metropole Hotel from Wednesday
27th to Friday 29th January 2010.
Advanced Cardiovascular Intervention 2010 will be a 3 day meeting with live cases being
performed on the first day, interspersed by several features including two keynote lectures from
our international faculty. Days 2 and 3 will feature themed plenary sessions, angio case review
as well as commentary on current clinical and translational reseach. The live cases this year
will be transmitted from the Bristol Heart Institute at the Bristol Royal Infirmary, hosted by
Andreas Baumbach. We will be reviewing the state of the art with respect to both coronary and
structural heart disease interventions and one theme will reflect the current “Stent for Life”
initiative promoted by the European Association of Percutaneous Cardiovascular
Interventions. We are inviting three internationally renowned speakers to address the Society.
This year we will be having a joint session with the British Society of Cardiovascular Imaging.
This reflects the emergence of new imaging techniques that will greatly enhance our ability to
target and deliver appropriate treatments to the right patients.
There will be a session dedicated to new major trials and the Young Investigator Award
competition will be run for the second time.
The Programme Committee is always challenged to ensure the programme is full and
interesting from start to finish, and we hope that our plans for an informative and provocative
last session on the Friday afternoon will stimulate you to attend the entire meeting.
As ever, we could not have this meeting without the very generous support from the British
Cardiovascular Industry Association. Although these are difficult times, our industry partners
acknowledge that we will only progress through research and education. The symbiotic
approach between clinicians, scientists, engineers and our industrial partners will maintain the
progress we have made.
We look forward to seeing you in January.
