SMART GOALS
• S – Specific and Strategic
• M – Measureable
• A – Attainable
• R – Results Oriented
• T – Time bound
SMART GOALS
– Strategic and Specific• Narrowly focused, high leverage areas; the GAN
– Measureable• Use of both formative and summative measures, qualitative
as well as quantitative data
– Attainable• A manageable stretch from present levels• Serves to inspire rather than discourage
– Results Oriented• Goal describes the outcome or result of implementation
– Time Bound• Sets a timeframe for accomplishment
Clarity of APPR Goals
• Even when schools establish goals, they tend to be too general. These “general goals” create a sense of “false clarity”, the erroneous belief that we understand and know how to work toward achieving the goals.
