– Strategic and Specific• Narrowly focused, high leverage areas; the GAN

– Measureable• Use of both formative and summative measures, qualitative

as well as quantitative data

– Attainable• A manageable stretch from present levels• Serves to inspire rather than discourage

– Results Oriented• Goal describes the outcome or result of implementation

– Time Bound• Sets a timeframe for accomplishment

Clarity of APPR Goals

• Even when schools establish goals, they tend to be too general. These “general goals” create a sense of “false clarity”, the erroneous belief that we understand and know how to work toward achieving the goals.
