Organization•What is the mission or purpose of our

organization?•To help people in need. •To contribute for the development of

society in general in the municipality of Olhão, through socio-cultural activities that promote the well being of its users.

Where does our NGO operate?•We operate in the city of Olhão.

What does it do?•We take care of elderly people and mental and physical disabled people.

How does our NGO raise and spend money?

•We spend each year 4 million Euros , supporting around 100 families in Olhão.

•Our Ngo receives a grant from the government and raises funds among the population.

When was our NGO founded and by whom?•It was founded in 1932 and before being called ACASO it was called Associação de Apoio à Mendicidade de Olhão, it was founded by Dr. Aires Mendonça, a notary of Olhão.

What causes the problem?•The problem consists in the elderly population not having enough money to hire someone to look after them.

•On the other hand they may also have families that don’t pay them the necessary care.

•And for these two reasons they are laid in houses like ACASO.

What are the consequences of the problem?• If people are not taken care they can

die alone and be left in misery.

How many people are supported by our project?•In our institution there are 80 users,

who are mostly elderly people.

Type of project•The ACASO is an institution that helps elderly people, needy families, children and teenagers and tries to give its best.

The number/amount of people the project affects.•The project affects 178 employees, 33 carriers of Service,650 partners and 800 users. Soon the whole are 1661 people who are affected by the project.

Cost of the project.•The state helps our institution and

supports that the activity will reach person without spending money, since it can’t pay.

•The ACASO spends annually about EUR 4 million

• Work in our institution 178 employees and 33 carriers have service.

Which different kinds of jobs can you do in a volunteering program?•In volunteer work, you can work with children in the kids program, with old people, supporting families and with disabled people.

Which skills are useful and what attitude is helpful for a good experience?•For older people, they need older or middle-aged to talk to them about past events, because they really like and need that.

•And for children it is good to have more new people to play with them and let them happy.
