INTRODUCTION

Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) is one of the seven public

Kenyan universities. JKUAT main campus is located at Juja Town, 36kms to the North-East of

Nairobi close to industrial towns of Thika and Ruiru.

JKUAT has curved a niche for itself in Kenya and the region as a center of excellence in training in

the fields of agriculture, engineering, architecture, applied sciences, built environment management ,

Health Sciences and entrepreneurship. JKUAT is now a University of choice, our aim is to set trends

in higher education, research and innovation. As a University of choice JKUAT intends to achieve

and maintain the highest level of excellence and also increase diversity of the programmes offered.

The college which started with few hundred of students has currently a student population of

approximately around 20,000.We aim at increasing the number of students enrolled by expanding to

other Campuses, College, and offering our courses in Continuing Education Programme (CEP)

centers:

Nairobi CBD Campus

Mombasa CBD Campus

In addition it has started a campus in Arusha, Tanzania and plans are in place to start other campuses

in other East African Countries.

The approved training centers are based at collaborating institutions and offer Certificates/Diploma

and Degree programmes under the supervision of University Senate.

APPLICATION AND ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO THE

UNIVERSITY

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

a) Government of Kenya Sponsored Students (GOK)

Applications for admission to Public Universities for Government Sponsored undergraduate degree

courses is done through Joint Admissions Board, (JAB), Secretariat based at the University of

Nairobi, P.O. Box 30197 - 00100 GPO, Nairobi. Forms are sent to respective secondary schools by

JAB Secretariat. After KCSE results are released, candidates are allowed to revise their degree

choices according to their performance and preferences. NB: Cut off points are fixed every year and

vary from academic year to academic year.

b) Self Sponsored Students (SSP) / Alternative Degree Programmes (ADP)

Advertisements for applications for the courses/programmes are carried out through the press (local

dailies). For admission mainly in January, April / May and September each calendar year.

Admission for courses is done in January, May and September in each calendar year with May being

the main intake session. It is important to note that application for courses is done on prescribed

forms obtainable from the University or University Website upon payment of an application fee as

specified here below.

Application Fees charged is as follows;

Certificate course - Kshs.500

Diploma Courses - Kshs.1, 000

Degree and Masters Courses - Kshs.1, 500

Note that applications for the Masters Degree courses are made upon advertisement to the Director

Board of Post Graduate courses.

Minimum Entry Requirement:

Certificate Courses: - KCSE mean grade C-,

Diploma Courses: - KCSE mean grade C Plain,

Degree Courses: - KCSE mean grade C+,

Masters Courses: - Holders of a Bachelor’s degree with at least 2nd

Class Honours

(Upper Division) in relevant fields.

In addition, applicants must meet specific Faculty and Departmental requirements. The University

equivalent qualifications will be considered for international students.

Fees Charged

The Tuition fees charged for each programme is indicated against the courses offered in the brochure

and may vary from programme to programme. It is important to note that there are other statutory

fees charged besides the tuition fees.

Minimum entry requirement Holders of a at least 2nd Class Honours (Upper Division) Bachelor of Architecture degree, JKUAT

OR, A Holder of the Bachelor ‘s degree in either Architecture, Urban Design or Landscape Architecture, or Bachelor of

Science or Arts degree in urban and region planning from any other institution, which is recognized by JKUAT Senate as

being of equivalent academic standard. OR,

Candidates admitted to Master of Architecture Degree by collaborating Universities through the NUFU Programme shall

be eligible for registration for approved units at JKUAT. OR Holder of any other academic qualifications(s) acceptable

to JKUAT Senate as being equivalent to or higher than those specifid in (i) to (iii) above.

2. Masters of Construction Project Management

Minimum entry requirement Holders of a Bachelor’s degree with at least 2nd Class Honours (Upper Division) in a field related to built environment.

OR, Be graduate of a University or any other institution of higher learning recognized by the JKUAT senate as being of

equivalent academic status for the purpose of admission to the program

OR, A holder of second Class Honors, Lower Division of JKUAT or any other institutions recognized by JKUAT senate

as being of equivalent academic status, and who in addition must show proof of either two (2) years relevant experience

and professional development of academic advancement through research, publication and postgraduate certificate

course related to project Management since graduation with the Bachelors degree , or a postgraduate Diploma in the

relevant field. OR, Holder of Bachelor Degree with a pass plus five years post qualification experience in built

environment.

Course Duration: 2 Years (2 semesters per year)
