The institute offers two post-graduate programmes: Business Administration (MBA) and Computer Applications (MCA). Another primary focus of the institution is offering to Ph. D and M.Phil programmes in Management and M. Phil programme in Computer Applications. The programmes are affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore. The intake capacity approved by AICTE for MBA programme is 60 seats till 2007 - 08 and increased to 120 seats from academic year 2008 – 09 onwards. The intake for MCA programme is 60 seats. To be effective in the current environment, professional education should provide broad intellectual understanding of the new paradigm, newer techniques of decision-making with the support of newer technologies and ability to work in different cultures and environment. Today the nation needs young and competent professionals who can perform to the expectations of the changing economy. Keeping this need in mind, CIMAT provides value based higher education and develops the overall personality of the students by providing opportunity for enhancing creativity, self-confidence, assertiveness, communication and leadership skills. The total built up area of the institute is more than 8937 sq. meters, which is spacious and
could accommodate all facilities to impart quality professional education. There are sufficient
numbers of classrooms, seminar hall, conference rooms, computer labs, library etc.

Objectives
1. To strive for continuous improvement in the quality of its services.
2. To provide the required resources, infrastructure and instructional facilities to meet the
needs of objective 1.
3. To enable continuous up gradation of the knowledge and teaching skills of its faculty
through internal and / or external training programmes.
4. To help the faculty to identify their strength and weakness and facilitate for qualitative
improvement in teaching, and
5. To strengthen the learning resources on ongoing basis to meet the requirements of the
curriculum.
ISO 9001:2008
The institution implemented the Quality Management System and registered for the ISO
certification in the year 2002. In the year 2005 the institution re-registered for further three years
for its Quality Management System. Again in the year 2008 the registration was extended till
2014. During the last several years after implementation of the Quality Management System, not
a single non-conformance was noticed in any of the QMS audit.
HRM Division
The HRM division of the CIMAT organizes Executive Development Programme to cater
to the needs of the industries, at the same time enabling the students to have abundant
opportunities to associate themselves in such consultancy assignments, which will motivate and
inspire them to develop their entrepreneurial and managerial skills and gain a broader
perspective.
Center for Research
A separate division is functioning in CIMAT to promote research efforts. All the
members of faculties of Management and Computer Applications are consultants. The division
undertakes research projects on its own and sponsored by other institutions, government
departments, UGC and AICTE, in topics of current interest. Research proposals are submitted to
the sponsoring agencies and they are implemented. It promotes industry - CIMAT tie-up that

brings the benefits of research to the faculty and students and the expert opinion of the faculty to
the entrepreneurs. Principal directly coordinates this division.
A research circle has been formed at CIMAT. Research scholars (M.Phil & Ph.D) present
their research design and take the guidance of experts and learn from interaction with other
scholars attending the meet.
CIMAT is offering full time and part time Ph.D programmes and M.Phil in Management
and Computer Science of Bharathiar University. So far 22 Ph.D’s are awarded, 23 scholars are
currently pursuing Ph.D in Management discipline and eight scholars are currently pursuing
Ph.D in Computer Science discipline. Ten candidates are awarded M.Phil in Management, six
scholars are pursuing their M.Phil in Management and eleven scholars are awarded M.Phil in
Computer Science and one scholar pursuing M.Phil in Computer Science.

Placement cell
The College has a placement cell, which helps the students in securing placement. It
arranges career-counseling programmes through psychometric tests. These tests bring out the
students strengths, weaknesses and their personal interests and attitude towards various career
options available to them. If needed, it arranges for any follow-up programmes to overcome the
weaknesses. Regular seminars are organized to enhance their career options. The details of

Library
An exclusive and full-fledged Library for MBA and MCA students with on-line
referential access is available. It includes database like DELNET. There are more than 24313
books with 15,344 titles. It has subscribed for 23 magazines, 32 national level journals, 15
international journals, 1520 back volumes and 1,965 CD’s in various disciplines.
Computer Lab
There are three exclusive state-of-the-art Computer Laboratories with Pentium IV
systems and core 2 duo processor. The laboratory-operating environment includes Windows NT,
Unix, Linux, Novel Netware and IIS. Internet facility and latest software like Oracle9i, Java and
Dot Net are available. Totally 225 systems and 5 servers are available in the well-equipped
computer labs. CIMAT Lab is powered with NPTEL. NPTEL program is used to enhance the
quality of education by developing curriculum based video and web courses. Each course
contains materials that can be covered in depth in 40 or more lecture hours. In addition, 110
courses have been developed in video format, with each course comprising of approximately 40
or more one-hour lectures.
Hostel
The institution is having well-furnished hostel rooms separately for boys and girls within
the campus. The boys hostel can accommodate 300 students and girls hostel can accommodate
250 students.

India Management Association in collaboration with IMRB, New Delhi. Thereafter the

CURRICULUM DESIGN AND STRUCTURE
(Effective from 2016 -17)
1.Introduction
The Coimbatore Institute of Management And Technology (CIMAT) was established in
1996, by Kovai Kalaimagal Educational Trust, a well-known Charitable Trust in Coimbatore.
The institute is approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) recognized by
UGC under Section 2f &12b of UGC Act and affiliated to Bharathiar University, Coimbatore It
is an ISO 9001:2000 certified institution.
The institute exclusively offers post-graduate programmes in Business Administration
(MBA) and in Computer Applications (MCA). The Institute was given autonomous status by
UGC and Bharathiar University from the academic year 2010-2011. CIMAT also offers PhD /
M.Phil programmes in management and M.Phil programmes in Computer applications. A
separate division the center for Research is functioning in CIMAT to promote research efforts.
The Center undertakes research projects on its own and sponsored by other institutions,
government departments, U.G.C and AICTE, in topics of current interest. Research proposals are
submitted to the sponsoring agencies and they are implemented as per the memorandum of
understanding. It promotes industry - CIMAT tie-up that brings the benefits of research to the
faculty and students and the expert opinion of the faculty to the entrepreneurs.
The Institution is having complete infrastructural facilities to impart quality education
with a state of the art library with ample reference material covering wide topics and computer
lab with latest systems. The laboratory-operating environment includes Windows 2003,
Windows NT, Unix, Linux, Novel Netware and IIS, Internet facility and latest software’s like
Oracle9i, Java and Dot net are available. A separate communication cell is established to
improve the communication skill of students. An association of Management studies –Horizon
and an association of Computer Applications – Netzone organizes various activities to develop

managerial ,technical and leadership qualities of the students .Apart from the association various
club like Finance Club ,Marketing Club ,HR Club ,Marketing Club ,Information Technology

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) of CIMAT which is sponsored by
Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India, New Delhi aims to
promote and implement programmes for building curriculum and training personal and assisting
trainers by exploring their entrepreneurial aptitude and apply their conceptual knowledge in
developing business plans in entrepreneurial activities.
