    High efficiencyABB Motors are designed to the highest possibleefficiency aimed at saving energy and operation costsduring the lifetime of the motor.Electrical protectionThermistors (PTC) are fitted as a standard or as optionto the windings of motors to protect against overheating.Voltage ranges for extra versatilityA wide range of voltages up to max. 690 V for 50 and 60Hz available.Reliable windingsTo ensure long lifetime, the winding is made from thelatest available material in class F protection andtemperature rise limited to class B (80 K) in standardmotors.

    Technical featuresStrong corrosion protectionThe motors are made to withstand aggressiveenvironments. They have strong and effective protectionagainst corrosion.Bearings with high load capacityAll motors are provided with deep-groove ball bearingsas standard and they are designed for long lifetime. Formotors with regreasing possibility, the lifetime isextended. Aluminium motors in sizes 63-180 and castiron motors in sizes 71-250 are greased for life.Aluminium motors in sizes 200-250 and all motors insizes 280-400 have a regreasing device as a standard.Low noise levelAn important objective in our design work is to minimizethe noise level. And we have been successful.

    Mechanical designAluminium motors,M2AA totally enclosed fan cooled IP 55Basic design manufactured from pressure die-castcorrosion resistant light alloy with a very low coppercontent. The flange bearing shields of sizes 180 to 250are made of cast iron. Sizes 200-250 have steel feet,bolted to the stator frame. Sizes 112 to 250 have drainholes and plugs as standard.See catalogue BA/M2AA GB for details.Steel motors,M2CA totally enclosed fan cooled IP 55Basic design manufactured from profile-pressed steelsheet. The stator core is welded into the stator frameand contributes to its excellent mechanical properties.The end shields are made from cast iron. Drain holesand plugs as standard.     Cast iron motors,QU and M2BA totally enclosed fan cooled IP 55Heavy duty design, manufactured from extra corrosionresistant cast iron materials to be used in all kind ofenvironment. The motor is mechanically very strong androbust and as standard designed for additional energysaving through frequency converter drives. Drain holesand plugs as standard in sizes 280 to 400.See catalogue BA/M2BA GB for details.

    Motors for other voltagesMotors wound for a given voltage at 50 Hz can also beused for other voltages. Recalculation factors for currentand torque values are given below; efficiency, powerfactor and speed remain approximately the same.Guaranteed values available on request.

    Motors for EU motor efficiency levelsA new Europe-wide agreement will ensure that the efficiency levels of electric motors manufactured inEurope are clearly displayed. In contrast to the American legislation on motor efficiency, the Europeanagreement does not establish mandatory efficiency levels. It basically establishes three classes, givingmotor manufacturers an incentive to qualify for a higher class.ABB is one of only a handful of leading motor manufacturers in Europe, to have a motor range to meet orexceed the minimum efficiencies stated in the highest level of the EU agreement of LV motors.These efficiency levels apply to 2- and 4-pole, three phase squirrel cage induction motors, rated for 400V,50Hz, with S1 duty classs with the output 1.1 to 90 kW, which account for the largest volume on themarket.The efficiency of motors from different manufacturers are collated in a database, EURODEEM, publishedby the European Commission. It is accessible over the Internet at http://iamest.jrc.it/projects/eem/eurodeem.htm.
