Summer is full of fun things to do at the Armory!

We have a full complement of classes, Summer Art Camp and special workshops-look out for those on the website and on our e-newsletters. We are always looking for specialopportunities to offer to students to enhance their artist skills and enjoyment. The campus will be humming with over 700 kids at our Summer Art Camp. They will be getting hands-on exploring different mediums including photography, collage, ceramics and painting.

Upcoming exhibitions of art by our county’s young adults will be on view in May and include the Benjamin School’s AP Visual Art students (opening May 9) and Dreyfoos Schoolof the Arts Visual Art and Digital Media Senior students (opening May 17). Both of these exhibitions showcase the talent of teen artists.

Art Rock comes back to the Armory on May 10 from Noon to 6 p.m. This is an indie marketplace for artists and collectors of all types. Hundreds attend this event, so be sure tomake plans for this fun experience. First 100 people get a free swag bag. Admission is $5. There is plenty of wearable art, hang able art and just simply art of all kinds! Later in the Summer there are four student shows-Two open June 13: Printmaking, Digital and Related Arts and Drawing and Painting. This is your opportunity to have your worksexhibited at the Armory if you are a student here.

In July, Jewelry and Glass and Ceramics and Sculpture exhibitions will be held. These open on July 18. Students in these media are welcome to participate. We've been able to improve the facility in the past few months with the completion of an awning over the sculpture area. Taken out by a hurricane some years back, a gift from

Lillian Miotto has made its reinstallation possible. This will make the area more comfortable for sculpture students (and less wet!). Also, the AAC has purchased an aluminum scaffold. This will be useful for all the exhibitions we have, installation, light fixture adjustments and general cleaning. It is also far safer than other ways to get up high! Many generous donorshave helped in these projects and others to improve the facilities.
