AAAS Objectives: An Invitation
The report of the 1958 meeting of theAAAS Council (page 469) discusses theappointment of three new Associationcommittees: the Committee on Cooper-ation among Scientists, the Committeeon Science in the Promotion of HumanWelfare, and the Committee on PublicUnderstanding of Science. In establish-ing these committees, the Council andthe Board of Directors agreed that "earlyeach year there would be published inScience an invitation to the membershipto contribute ideas and suggestions tothe appropriate committees."
Each of the three committees will beresponsible for studying problems in thearea of its interest, recommending pro-grams of action to the Board of Direc-tors, planning symposia on problems ofunusual interest or current importance, and other similar activities that the com-mittees themselves may choose to takeup.Members who have recommendations
