MORE THAN 40 YEARS OF ONS HISTORY

THE ONS BRAND

When oil and gas was discovered in the North Sea, the need for a meeting place for the companies in this new industry emerged. ONS was held for the first time in 1974, and has more than 40 years of proud history.

ONS is a non-profit foundation, and was established by Stavanger City Council, Statoil, Stavanger Forum and the Norwegian Petroleum Society.

ONS has developed with the times – as has the name. In the seventies, ONS was short for Offshore North Sea, as the event was targeted at companies with business in the North Sea basin.

However, the oil industry soon started to explore other parts of the Norwegian Continental Shelf. The ONS event grew alongside the industry, more exhibitors and visitors participated and the conference topics became broader. So the name was changed to Offshore Northern Seas.

Today the event attracts visitors from all over the world, and is known just as ONS.

THE VALUE OF ROYAL PATRONAGE

The oil and gas on the Norwegian Continental Shelf has given Norway and its citizens a lot. A thriving industry. Employment. Innovative and technological edge. A solid economy.

The members of the Norwegian Royal Family recognised the importance of the activities on the shelf right at the beginning.

HM King Harald, who was then Crown Prince of Norway, soon became patron of ONS. As a result of this commitment, a member of the Royal Family has been present at every ONS since 1974.

The Royal Patronage encourages us to strive harder to achieve our goals and is an invaluable token of the importance of the ONS meeting place.

THE ONS CONCERTThe big outdoor concert gathers ONS participants – and the citizens of Stavanger in the harbour.

With an audience of 20 000 people, the atmosphere is magnificent when the artists enter the stage. Spectacular fireworks serve as the finale of the show.

OPENING CONCERTThe Opening Concert is a net-working event for ONS’ special guests. Conference speakers, summit delegates, committee members and others are invited to celebrate the opening of ONS with a show in Stavanger Concert Hall.

RUN FOR FUN – THE ROAD RACERun for fun – or walk and talk! ONS organises one of the biggest road races in the Stavanger region. The companies exhibiting at ONS often encourage their staff and families to join this fun event.

The course is only four kilometres long, from the ONS venue to the centre of Stavanger. At the finishing line there’s food and drink, and entertainment on the stage.
