While winter has been pretty kind to Philadelphia weather-wise, in terms of flu and cold season it has been a rough one. I am really looking forward to seeing the first daffodils; add in the bird song and it is truly a time to be appreciated. Don’t forget, though, before the start of spring comes Daylight Saving Time, which begins on March 8th. We might be losing an hour of sleep, but we do gain an hour of sunlight. The Renaissance garden should be kicking into gear about that time, and with the donation of over 50 bulbs from the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society this past winter, we can use that extra hour to admire our very own daffodils. So please enjoy spring while it lasts, summer will be here soon enough. This is evident in the care and concern that she shows for her fellow residents and the staff. Miss Brenda is always there with a kind word and a smile that can light up a room.

Annual Sweetheart’s Ball
Miss Brenda Gibson was born in Dillon, South Carolina, one of nine girls and four boys. She has many favorite memories of the childhood trips her family took to Virginia Beach every summer. After completing high school in 1971, Miss Brenda followed her big sister, Margaret, up to Philadelphia. Miss Brenda found work sewing in a factory, a job that she said was “OK

The February newsletter had touted our annual Sweetheart’s Ball. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control in the form of several bouts of the flu necessitated its postponement. We are very happy to announce the Ball has been rescheduled for Wednesday, March 4th! Jimmy Wells will be here to provide the songs that rocked our hearts back in the day and still rock them today. And yes, we are still accepting donations of formal wear! Please contact the Activities staff if you have any men’s suits, fancy dresses, tops or accessories that you would like to give a good home to. Also in March, we can look forward to visits from Jon Turk for our birthday party and Smitty from the City for no other reason than just because we like to party at Renaissance.
