A Letter to Congress – By Rich Woldt CEO Risk Management Learning Center I missed the listening sessions on gun violence in our society and active shooting incidents in our schools. I had to be in Arizona assessing risks to U.S. agriculture created by our failure to secure our borders or curb illegal immigration. They’re enormous. Unfortunately, our attention has been focused away from violence on our border to a rehash of how stricter gun controls impact crime and violence in our society. History proved the more controls placed on a free society the higher are our crime rates and the more dangerous society becomes. Our 25 States that allow citizens to strap on a gun without a permit are the safest. Four out of five murders in the US are committed in the other 25. Illinois, New York, and California have the strictest gun controls and are called “Murder Capitols of the World.” Christopher Dorner is killing California citizens because they’re “sitting ducks” unable to defend themselves. Federal gun controls have no place in a free society. Switzersand’ gun legislation that required citizens to own guns and learn to shoot helped curb violence on their streets while equipping them to hold off Hitler’s army until allies came to their rescue (click here ). Much of Hitler’s success has been credited to his inspiring speeches that convinced his followers to first register their firearms and then lay them down.

Darrell Scott, the father of Rachel Scott, a victim of the Columbine High School shootings in Littleton, Colorado, was invited to address a U.S. House Judiciary subcommittee. He began with a poem he’d written the night before:
Your laws ignore our deepest needs.
Your words are empty air. You've stripped away our heritage.
You've outlawed simple prayer. Now gunshots fill our classrooms,
and precious children die. You seek for answers everywhere,
and ask the question "Why?" You regulate restrictive laws through legislative creeds.
And yet you fail to understand that God is what we need!

Restrictive gun control legislation in the U.S. that bans assault weapons or rounds a pathological nut-job brings to the scene haven’t worked before and they’ll not work now. The facts are: Illinois, California, New York, and Washington D.C. have the strictest gun laws in the U.S. yet they're considered the "Murder Capitals of the World." On the other hand, Sweden’s gun laws requiring each household to have a gun is credited for holding off Hitler’s army and currently credited for ranking Sweden one of the safest countries in which to live, work, and raise a family.

Credit unions around the world practice “Crime Prevention through Environmental Designs (CPTED) to control burglary, robbery, and violence in the workplace risks. Communities across the U.S. have formed “Public to Private Partnerships” that stand mission ready to respond anytime public sector response assets are overwhelmed by the scope or exhausted by the duration of a community crisis. We need only to learn from our experience, incorporate security “best practices” in our homeland security protocols, and empower our citizens to take immediate action anytime they’re caught in the line of fire or our homeland stands in harm’s way. Background checks have little benefit when rooting out potential shooters. “Guns don’t kill people, ignoring social media does! “ Rich Woldt
It appears the media is hiding portions of the LAPD shooter’s manifesto because it highlights his love for the left-wing media and political ideology. The media version is available from Clear Channel Communications pdf. CLICK HERE
Timothy James "Tim" McVeigh was an American domestic terrorist who detonated a truck bomb in front of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City on April 19, 1995.

He worked dead-end jobs, voiced fears of going nowhere, tried a well-trod escape route -- the
Army -- but bailed out as the military downsized with the fall of communism. Like millions in
his generation, he ended up back home as an adult, a man sleeping in a boy's room, headed
exactly where he'd feared: nowhere.
For the most part, any aberrations in Tim McVeigh's life were hidden under an exterior so bland
as to be nondescript. Many acquaintances had to struggle to think of something -- anything -- to
relate about him. His interest in firearms was known only to friends who also liked them; a good
friend from the track team never even knew McVeigh owned a BB gun. In retrospect, merely
appearing regular seems to have been a lifelong pursuit.
"There's nothing alarming about him -- nothing," this person said. "He's respectful of his elders,
he's polite. When he expresses political views, for most of what he says, Rush Limbaugh is
scarier. That's what's incredibly frightening. If he is what he appears to be, there must be other
people out there like him. You look at him and you think: This isn't the end of something; this is
the beginning of something."
Psychologists have warned for years that young people like McVeigh born in the late 1960s,
whose families fractured in record numbers, whose economic frustrations far exceed those of
their parents, are unusually alienated and vulnerable to fringe movements. In this view, the social
and economic upheavals of the last 20 years have planted a virus in American society with still
On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza fatally shot twenty children and six adult staff members
at Sandy Hook Elementary School in the village of Sandy Hook in Newtown, Connecticut.[4][5]
Before driving to the school, Lanza had shot and killed his mother, Nancy Lanza, at their
Newtown home.[7][9][10]
As first responders arrived, Lanza committed suicide by shooting
himself in the head.

The incident was the second
deadliest school shooting in
United States history, after the
2007 Virginia Tech massacre. It
was also the second-deadliest
mass murder at an American
elementary school, after the 1927
Bath School bombings in
Michigan.
James Eagan Holmes
James Eagan Holmes is the suspected perpetrator of a mass shooting that occurred on July 20, 2012 at a Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, which killed 12 people and injured 58 others. He had no known criminal record prior to the shooting
who pleaded guilty to 19 charges of murder and attempted murder
in connection with the shooting in Tucson, Arizona, on January 8,
2011, in which he shot and severely injured U.S. Representative
Gabrielle Giffords, his target, and killed six people, including Chief
U.S. District Court Judge John Roll, as well as a 9-year-old girl,
Christina-Taylor Green.[2][3][4][5][6]
Loughner shot and injured 12
other people, and one man was injured while subduing him.[7]
Acquaintances said that Loughner's personality had changed
markedly in the years prior to the shooting, a period when he was also
abusing alcohol and drugs. He had been suspended from Pima
Community College in September 2010 because of his bizarre
behavior and disruptions in classes and the library. After his arrest,
two medical evaluations diagnosed him as paranoid schizophrenic
and incompetent to stand trial. He was medicated while in jail as part
of his treatment. He was again judged incompetent in May 2012. In
August 2012, he was judged competent to stand trial, and at the
hearing, he pled guilty to 19 counts. In November 2012, he was
sentenced to life in prison without parole.
During the shooting in Tucson, Arizona, on January 8, 2011 at least one person in the store was carrying a gun. He told me he regrets knowing he’d just gone back into the store to get something but was toward the back of the store when the shooting started. Had he known he would have been able to approach the shooter from behind the stone pillars for cover and
concealment. Rich Woldt – CEO The Risk Management Learning Center
Risk Management to the rescue!
Risk Management (RM) is a “method of
management” that identifies, measures, and controls
the risks we face each day. We all face two types of
risk in life, “Pure” and “Speculative.” When a pure
risk occurs you only suffer losses while when you
create a speculative risk you hope to make a gain but
you could suffer a loss. Getting shot during an armed
robbery is a “pure” risk while carrying a gun is
speculative. Click here to protect political dignitaries.
No matter what the violent act might be, the path to
recovery from its trauma is similar. Read our
whitepaper on trauma management. Rich Woldt
It’s time we realize we’ll never be able to totally avoid violence so we need to focus on RM controls that will at least reduce its frequency and severity. We need a country wide public to private partnership that includes all segments of our society. We have a great start. For example, click here and be familiar with what the Department of Justice DOJ has doe.
If our Founding Fathers could talk, they’d tell us we’re in this life together, no one has all the right answers, and no one in the room was born yesterday. They’d remind us we’ve been fighting for freedom, putting up with illegal immigrants, and battling bad weather, floods, pandemics, bullies, and terrorists since the American Revolution. They’d acknowledge bleeding hearts and ultra conservatives have claimed the high-road for centuries, will continue to protest until the cows come home, and we’ve been fighting Marxists, Leninists, Fascist, Communists and Kings for over 212 years, and yet their ideologies are still alive and well in Washington. George Washington would be the first to warn “If we give the enemy an inch, they’ll take a foot!”
Their best advice might be; to learn from history, get along but don’t burry our heads in the sand just to
keep the peace, pray often, and always trust in God. George Washington said, “It’s impossible to rightly
govern the nation without God and the Bible.” We’d be cautioned not to shoot-to-kill those with whom
we disagree, for we might be on the same side of the fence during the next campaign. Before we dig in,
we should put our ears to the ground to hear our enemies coming, take the high ground for the best
battle view, and cut them off at the pass when possible. Keep our powder dry, wait until we see the
whites of their eyes, shoot straight, and never retreat until the battle is won. Never leave our guard
down or turn our backs to the enemy. And, never sell or give a potential enemy our guns, ammunition,
tanks, ships, fighter jets, technology or radio stations. All will eventually be used against us and our
allies. Always ride the fastest horse and never bring only a knife to a gun fight. Be bold, be courageous,
pray often, and never go to war without God on our side. Never ever lead from behind!
They’d remind us that most have common sense yet many fail to use it. They’d tell us they’re angered by
those who failed to fight to protect our unborn, turned their backs to their church, and denied God to
get along. They’d bemoan the many who’ve died to secure our freedom, defend our homeland, and
safeguard our destiny, while so many remain unwilling to be counted, fight for freedom, or take risks to
chart their destiny. Finally, they’d remind us it’s our constitution that guards freedom, Bill of Rights that
preserves our liberty, and history that alerts us to tyranny.
