Education, this year, was not the MAJOR topic of the session. As always, the state aid for- mula and how to fund it was discussed. The Governor in his budget address has proposed a 1% increase to state aid. Then the state revenue numbers came in and they were not very good. There was talk that the state aid amount would be 0, not 1%. Finally during the last day of ses- sion, the legislators passed the state aid bill with a 0.3% increase. This means that the target for teacher salaries will go up $145 to $48,645. Re- member, last year the legislature set the new teacher salary target at $48,500. This is what school districts have to try to get to throughout the next couple of years. State Testing Continues: April is the time that we will continue testing our students in grades 3- 8 and grade 11. English-Language Arts and Mathematics will be tested using the Smarter Balanced test. Notes will be coming home from school informing you of the testing dates.
