“For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life.” (Jn 3:16)

It can be easy amidst all the hustle and bustle of “the holiday season” to lose focus on the meaning of the Incarnation – God’s act of becoming man in Jesus Christ - and what it says about the depth of God’s merciful love for each of us. Perhaps, we will never comprehend the fullness of God’s sacrificial love until we see Him face to face. For now, let the following words resonate deep in your soul: “Through Jesus Christ the invisible God becomes visible. He becomes a man like us. This shows us how far God’s love goes: He bears our whole burden. He walks every path with us. He is there in our abandonment, our sufferings, our fear of death. He is there when we can go no farther, so as to open up for us the door leading into life” (YOUCAT, 9). This Christmas season, and beyond, may we carry the joy of knowing that the God who created everything and needs nothing willingly “took on a human face and became our friend and brother” so that we might one day live with Him in Paradise. And that is why Jesus Christ, who was sent to die for our sins, is the greatest gift of mercy and the only gift we will ever truly need.

Every parent of a teenager can relate to this Gospel. The worry, the relief the admonishment. The 12-year-old Jesus seems a bit cavalier about his parents concern but when they returned home, he “was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart. And Jesus advanced in wisdom and age and favor.” We do not hear from him again for 18 years. The vocation of parent is not always easy. Pray in a special way today for all parents, grandparents and caregivers.

Meet Fr. Vin −The Gift of Family

As the pastor of three parishes in Dorchester and Mattapan, Fr. Vin’s responsibilities are extraordinary. While his daily work is a source of great joy, it’s the love and devotion of a special sister named Connie that restores his spirit.

When Fr. Vin’s parents passed away, he and his sister Eileen became the sole guardians of their disabled sister. For Fr. Vin, being a brother and a priest for Connie is an immense blessing. The unconditional love that he receives from Connie—especially at the end of a busy day— continues to fill his heart with gratitude.
