Dear Teambuild,

I was excited when I came across the job listing for the Architectural Supervisor

role on Teambuild’s career web-page and am keen to apply for the position. In my 3

years of experience at a local Architectural consultancy, I became aware of Teambuild’s

PPVC capabilities in various HDB D&B projects and was impressed. I would certainly

like to be part of Teambuild, as being one of the leading construction firms that strive

to fully adopt Integrated Digital Delivery.

About myself:

After graduation in 2016, I served a 3 year BCA-Industry bond at a small local

Architectural consultancy firm and have assisted and represented the Architectural

Qualified Person (QP) on numerous Additions & Alterations (A&A) projects of varying

scales. I am well versed with Authority requirements, assisting in QP submissions, and

with Green Mark award requirements, as well as building Wellness criteria for better

indoor environments.

I am also motivated to improve design efficiency through continuous learning,

and am currently undertaking the Specialist diploma in Architectural Technology

course at the Building Construction Authority (BCA) Academy.

Beyond conceptual and design experience, I managed site and construction

coordination meetings as the project Architectural lead, to align design objectives. I

have also picked up Project management skills so as to meet timely authority

inspections, clearances and completion handing-over.

Besides being proficient with the use of project management software, such as

MS Excel and Project for project planning or reporting, I have developed soft-skills to

be able to communicate well with local tradesmen, suppliers, contractors and allied

consultants. I find it important to appreciate their work and resolve issues together, in

order to drive the projects forward.

I am currently actively looking for suitable employment and am available to

A&A involving demolition and reconstruction of existing NUS student canteen with additional GFA allocation for additional functions, such as lounges and study areas.

I assisted the QP Rep during the construction phase, facilitating major design changes that occured post-Tender stage. Engagement with the Main Contractor and their suppliers was crucial to confirm the Value Engineering (VE) changes, all while resolving technical details through close technical coordination.

The site presented significant ERSS challenges resulting in necessary changes to the initial Tendered design. Through this experience I learnt to anticipate the worst but also implement practical solutions that are able to meet deadlines. This cannot be achieved if there was no mutual understanding with the Contractors and the necessary work involved. Internally, it was also challenging to facilitate design changes alongside technical coordination that had been based on the initial set of designs.

This campus infrastucture improvement project serves to enhance pedestrian connectivity between NUS’s Medicine and Science precincts. Several old buildings were decomissioned to make way for a large connecting green vista with new connecting walkways, sheltering pedestrians from Kent Ridge MRT through to the heart of NUS’s Science precinct.

My involvement from start to end gave me a grest deal of experience from demolition stage through to erection of new structures, and statutory completion. From this infrastructure and landscaping project, I gained perspective through the lens of institutional project management. Being extensive with multiple stakeholders, the project was conceptualised into 3 phases. This was successfully reflected into the tender stage, resulting in the project’s successful delivery and timely completion.

The major challenge of this project was technical, as part of the project scope involved consolidating existing precinct M&E services into a concealed subterranean trench, which still had to be accessible for maintenance.

NUHKids project is an overhaul of the existing paediatric out-patient clinic within the NUH Kent Ridge wing. Situated within NUH’s tightly clustered precinct, the new building is conceptualised as elevated volumes. This allows light and air into a voluminous, welcoming atrium at ground level and play activity areas above.

I assisted during the construction phase between 2017-2018, regularising authority submissions for project completion, and contract administration. Project technical coordination and monitoring was crucial to ensure timely delivery of project milestones.

The project experienced stop-work orders arising from work-site related incidents. I gained contract administration experience and learned through assisting the QP in addressing work-site incidents. Through running the project, I gained an appreciation of the Contractor-end site safety requirements, such as CONSASS reporting, and technical considerations when tower cranes are involved.

Brief The NUS Geography chemical analysis lab situated at the old Arts and Social Sciences block 2 had found a new location in a decomissioned chiller plant room within the same block. This A&A project calls for a relocation of the lab into and simultaneous refurbishment of 2 other seminar rooms.

Experience :

Reflection I ran this Minor A&A project from start to finish and tackled the technical challenges of lab design requirements. The design had to incorporate technical requirements of a 24/7 cold room, pressurised analysis room and semi-automatic operable partition wall. The aesthetic had to be kept simple, with attention to coordinating the new M&E services into an existing space.

It was a fruitful learning experience as I had gained insight into the functioning and requirements for Laboratory design. A lot of attention had to go into coordinating M&E detail, as the eventual quality of the space, ie. the internal air temperature, humidity and pressure was essential to the functioning of the space itself.

This interesting project repurposed an existing seminar room into an accoustically sealed Virtual Reality training room for NUS’s medical and nursing students.

Title : Founder’s Memorial

I participated in the Founder’s Memorial competition as part of the Forum Architect’s team. The concept of the memorial was a sculpture-as-building that sits well with the landscape. The sculpture was envisioned as a continuous loop, a ‘Mobius-strip’ ribbon that symbolises the fabric continuity of the past to the present. The ribbon arches and frames the view of modern Singapore accross the Marina bay.

I generated the 3D model loop that was conceptualised, and coordinated the structural analysis with Webstructure. While the sculpture appears complex, it is actually composed of several repeated geometries that have been rationalised.

HDB Seng Kang project D was a closed competition in which Forum Architects had partnered with Chiu Teng construction to propose a scheme. The main challenge was to design a coherent estate that is split over two adjacent plots with different height restrictions. The idea of the valley was introduced to bring together the two plots, simultaneously, easing the flow of people through the estate and connecting to a future development across Fernvale lane.

I was assistant to the Architect lead consultant and coordinated tightly with the main contractor and allied consultants. I contributed towards the design of the PPVC dwelling units, and liased with the landscape design team.

This architectural curtain-wall module was an exercise in construction detailing and understanding the manufacturing process. My team and I focused on a detailed casting process and the screen’s function in filtering out rain and modulating daylight. We first detailed outward tapering openings with drip channels, and secondly designed the casting mould. We managed to successfully cast and produce a 120kg mass-concrete module.

Amongst the memorable projects during my Internship at TENArchitects, this project stood out. The design process involved a working and constantly evolving physical model made for a house at 7 Jalan Melor.

During my internship with La Conception associates, I worked on the interior design scheme for a condominium apartment situated in India. This project kick-started my interest in rendering, visualisation and lighting design.

A personal home improvement project, peg-board shelving were hand crafted from 3 4’x8’ standard 18mm thick plywood boards. 8mm and 21mm hand-drilled holes and pegs support shelving. Boards were secured to wall with French cleat joints.
