The distributor has started off with a couple of networking and security products such as Intel Security and Citrix.

market.”According to Eriksousi,

the sheer market size and appetite for new and emerging technologies are the biggest growth drivers in the African market.

At GITEX 2015, the company is leveraging the opportunity to meet with more vendors and discuss with senior management on the prospects present in this market.

“In terms of technologies, we believe data centre and security solutions will drive the growth in the region.

“We are now looking to build our channel network in North Africa. Over the next year, our focus in Africa will be on partner recruitment, enablement and coaching,” he adds.

business unit, the company has added brands including Fidelis, Niksun and Shavlik, earlier in the year. Fortinet has also signed the distributor as its new VAD for the Middle East region recently.

“This partnership is going to enable us to collaborate with the vendor and with the entire partner community as a true enterprise security offering,” Balakrishnan says.

The company has carried out several significant projects for Avaya across West Africa within the convergence and infrastructure business unit in the past year.

“We are also setting up a solutions centre for Oracle in Saudi, which is purely based on cloud. We can now demonstrate their PaaS and SaaS solutions, which is a big development for us.”

Under the server and storage business unit, the distributor has

extended its relationship with Dell across the Middle East region, which was previously covering only Africa.

At GITEX 2015, the company has announced the launch of its new cloud business unit and introduced its integrated cloud platform, RedCloud to the region. The platform is aimed to offer a one-stop solution for customers’ complete enterprise cloud requirements.

Over the coming months, we will see the VAD setting up a full-fledged solutions centre in Dubai, consolidating its robust portfolio and becoming an authorised training partner for many of its vendors.

“Partners can look forward to a number of initiatives from us such as extensive training and more engagement in terms of bringing them closer to their vendors,” Balakrishnan adds.

As a part of its participation at GITEX 2015, the Ministry of Interior is displaying its latest edition of advanced digital maps, which the smart Government program team recently activated on the Ministry’s smart application UAE-MOI and the Ministry’s website www.moi.gov.ae.

Lt. Colonel Faisal Mohammed

Al Shammari, Executive Director of the MoI’s Smart Government Program, said that activating the digital maps platform provides accurate geographical and spatial data to customers and service centers. “This would further promote and boost the level of services and streamlines access to these services in

record time,” he said.Additionally, Lt. Colonel

Al Shammari noted that the Ministry of Interior has resorted to the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Centre to activate digital maps, because geographic services are one of the basic pillars in the smart services matrix and an essential component of the

e-transformation initiatives and projects.

Adding further, Lt. Colonel Al Shimmari said: “In addition to serving the public, the digital maps platform supports many police and operational systems such as the operations rooms. They also contribute to provide the necessary enablers to achieve the national agenda, as a part of the government’s vision to make the UAE one of the safest places in the world by achieving a 100 percent total sense of security and by reducing response time to emergency calls to just minutes; and leveraging the latest technologies to achieve the Abu Dhabi’s Economic Vision 2030, which includes establishing the government of Abu Dhabi as one of the best five e-governments in the world.”

The Ministry of Interior acquainted visitors with the benefits of using the UAE-MOI smartphone application that was recently updated. The application is an integrated platform that allows users to obtain a number of services in their daily lives that are offered by four main sectors of the Ministry, in addition to the latest and most important news, advice and instructions.

Backup and recovery solutions firm Veritas Technologies has announced companies in the UAE have one of the highest rates of redundant, obsolete and trivial data (ROT) stored in their corporate networks.

According to the Databerg Report 2015, a typical midsize company in the UAE, with 500 TB of data, will waste AED 2.36million each year maintaining trivial files, including personal ID doc, music and videos wasting valuable IT resources and starving its cashflow.

“Data should deliver on its promise and work for

the organisation, but it’s apparent that in the UAE it is the other way round,” said Amer Chebaro, Regional Director, Gulf, Veritas. “The key findings of the Report reflect that companies invest a significant amount of resources to maintain data that is totally irrelevant for their businesses.”

The study revealed that the majority of companies (69%) in the UAE, one of the highest rates in EMEA, have not yet implemented a strategy to understand their dark data or to evaluate their business value.

“This has an impact on data

quality as UAE companies have the lowest rate of business relevant data stored in their Databerg in the EMEA region,” Chebaro added.

The survey provides insights on how 1,475 respondents (including 75 in the UAE) in 14 different countries across the EMEA region are dealing with the challenges surrounding turning data into valued business information. The report introduces a new phenomenon called the Databerg, represented by three major types of data stored by organizations today:

The study found a typical

UAE organisation reports dark data rates of 49% (EMEA avg. 54%), ROT levels of 43% (EMEA avg. 32%), leaving just 8% (EMEA avg. 14%), of identifiable business critical data.
