FAITH CORNER During the season of Lent, we often hear about fasting and abstaining from meat and as Catholics, we observe these requirements. Ash Wednesday and all Fridays are days of abstinence, which means that anyone over the age of fourteen abstains from eating meat. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are also days of fasting which means that people between the ages of eighteen and fifty-nine eat one full meal and two smaller meals that do not add up to a full meal. While both of these practices involve giving something up, Lent can also be a time for feast- ing and I encourage you to pray the prayer for Fasting and Feasting, which is also in your family envelopes. Dear St. Mary Magdalen Families, I hope you have all had a blessed start to the season of Lent. It was wonderful to have so many parents and grandparents able to join us on Ash Wednesday for Mass and during the season of Lent, all are welcome to join us every Friday at 11:40am in the Chapel for Stations of the Cross. While only 2 nd through 8 th grade students attend on a regular basis, parents of younger children are welcome to bring them over to the Chapel during that time as well. Thank you to all of our families who have returned the blue Intent to Return forms to the office already. If you have not done so already, please return the form to the office no later than Friday, February 19 th . We have applications for students in all grades and will begin to enroll these students in the coming weeks once we have returning students in place. If you are currently receiving financial aid from the Children’s Education Fund, please check your family envelope for your paperwork to secure those funds for the upcoming school year. If you are foreseeing a need for financial aid for next year for your family, please contact the school office for an application for the Children’s Education Fund as well as apply for in-house financial aid via the FACTS Grant and Aid link on the school website. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly. As we are in the middle of cold and flu season, please make sure to encourage your children to wash their hands frequently and to make good use of the hand sanitizer available in our classrooms. Also, if your child is sick and in particular has a fever please keep them home and remember they must be fever-free without medication for twenty-four hours before they return to class. I hope you all have a wonderful week! Peace, Michael Ronan Principal
