As governor, I would like to continue efforts to expand the program to reach parts of the state that do not have delegations or have had delegations in the past, but no longer have them. I also would like to emphasize the connection between the YMCA and YIG, and allow more opportunities for us as a program to give back to the Y. I think that in a program like this, an open communication is key, and I would like to create a chanel of communication between chapter and state leadership. Junior YIG also holds a special place in my heart and I would love to continue my efforts to grow and strengthen the middle

school program.

Favorite quoteNever doubt that a small group of thought-ful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. -Margaret Mead

My favorite memory would have to be opening ceremonies of my 7th grade year, when I was serving as a page. It was a completely new experience, and exceeded all expectations [that] I had.

I think that the most important thing YIG has taught me is the concept of servant leadership. My first couple of years in the program were all about what YIG could give me. Over the past couple of years, as I’ve stepped up in [my] leadership [role], I’ve realized that the best way for me to get the most out of the program is to serve others and help them have the same experiences that I have had. Servant leadership is what being a P.O. is really about.

If you could go anywhere in the universe, where would it be?The Galapagos Islands, because it has been my dream destination since I was eight years old. There are just too many animals that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.

After asking some of you one single question, I was able to determine what plans I would help set into action if elected your governor. The question? “What would you change

about YIG?”I believe that it is the governor’s responsibility to take initiative and discover all delegates’ goals for this program and help make them happen. It is apparent that one of the biggest areas for improvement we see with YIG is the creation of [stronger communication] across the state. One solution that may help is sending out monthly updates from the P.O. Corps to each chapter advisor to keep them informed of any changes

or progress.

Favorite quoteUntil philosophers rule as kings or those who are now called kings and leading men genuinely and adequately philosophize, cities will have no rest for evils, nor, I think, will the human race. -Plato

Although there are countless memories I’ve made with all of you, my favorite memory would be last years PO/SO retreat. It was the first time I had experienced Mando-Fun and it was quite possibly one of the most enjoyable activities I’ve done in YIG. It taught me the meaning of “Work hard, Play hard.”

YIG has taught us all valuable lessons, such as being honest, upholding integrity, and acting graciously. YIG has taught me that being a leader is not only about following your goals, it is about all of us. It’s about listening to everyone, and respecting them as equals, because, at the end of the day, we are all simply delegates with the unbreakable desire to change this program for the better.

If you could go anywhere in the universe, where would it be? [Pluto!] First of all, Pluto was the greatest pet dog in the history of Disney. Also, Pluto is probably feeling abandoned and pretty insignificant because it is no longer considered a legitimate planet. So, lets try and show Pluto some love.
