Dear brothers and sisters, Today I want to share with you a beautiful reflection of Pope Francis on the multiplication of the bread and the fish, today’s Gospel: “Peter, with the boldness that characterizes him, almost asks for a test: "Lord, if it is you, make me walk towards you on the waters"; and Jesus says "Come!" Peter gets out of the boat and starts to walk on the water, but the strong wind whips and begins to sink. Then he cries out, "Lord, save me!" And Jesus reaches out and lifts him up. This narration is a beautiful image of the faith of the apostle Peter. In the voice of Jesus that says "Come", he recognizes the echo of the first meeting on the shore of that same lake and then, once again, leaves the boat and goes to the Master. And he walk on the waters! The confident and prompt response to the Lord's call always enforces extraordinary things. Jesus right now told us that we are capable of working miracles with our faith: faith in him, in his word, faith in his love. Instead, Peter begins to sink when he takes his eyes off Jesus and lets himself be influenced by the circumstanc-es that surround him. But the Lord is always there, and when Peter invokes him, Jesus saves him from danger. In the person of Pe-ter, with his enthusiasms and weaknesses, our faith is described: always fragile and poor, restless and despite everything victorious, the faith of the Christian walks to-wards the risen Lord, in the midst of the storms and dan-gers of the world. The final scene is also very important: “As soon as they got into the boat the wind stopped. Those in the boat fell down before Him saying, 'You really are the Son of God!' ” (S.S. Francis, Angelus, August 10, 2014). God bless you! FFr. Andrea
(S.S. Francisco, Ángelus, 10 de agosto de 2014). ¡Dios les bendiga! P. Andrea

Due to the shutdown of Churches for COVID-19, parishes were unable to launch the 2020 Catholic Appeal this past March with an in-pew presentation. However, as the work of our Church has continued amidst the pandemic, the more than 50 ministries funded by the Catholic Appeal are in need now more than ever. The success of the Appeal is vital in funding these ministries that provide assistance to our parishes, schools, and communities in a variety of ways. Please consider making your gift to the 2020 Catholic Ap-peal in one of the following ways:
If you receive a letter or email, respond using the pledge card or donation options.
Visit bostoncatholicappeal.org to give online
Every gift, regardless of the size, is meaningful and can make an impact. Your participation in our parish Appeal is very much appreciated by our parish and the thousands that are served through the Archdiocesan Central Ministries. This is our Church and when you support the Appeal, you support us!

THE DESCENT TO HELL Christ is dead and descends to the underworld. Christ ap-pears surrounded by a mandorla (circle) and wears a nimbus (halo). He is the owner of Life and of the Cosmos. His resur-rected body, conqueror of the abyss of death, is animated by the God-Trinity, mainly the Holy Spirit, hence that radiance of divine powers (golden rays) and that dynamism expressed in his advance towards Adam. Christ has passed through death, symbolized by the black circle, and now inserted in the two paradisiacal spheres, he seizes Adam and brings him to him-self. At Christ's feet and inside the cave, you can see the bro-ken doors of hell and all its bolts, chains and nails scattered. In front of Adam stands Eve, the mother of all the living, and extends his arms to the Savior. Their hands are covered be-cause they touched the forbidden fruit. The two groups of fig-ures represent the prophets and the righteous who await the Savior. On the left King David, Solomon and Daniel with the Babylonian-style headdress. Closer to Jesus, John the Baptist repeats his gesture of testimony. On the right are Moses with the tablets of the Law, Abraham with a wrinkled face and No-ah with the rainbow-colored garments; they are witnesses to the Covenant. Today, the dead and risen Christ descends to the depths of our being and rips us out of the darkness, be-cause we were buried with him by baptism in order to rise with him from the dead (Col. 2:12) and live a new life.
