Borehole 40650
Location: Grid 12+OON, 12+OOEClaim 236820, 470'N and 470'W, post 2
Depth: 1,201', Az -360 0 , Dip -50'
Borehole 40650 was drilled to investigate and explain 2 ground E.M. conductors paralleling a magnetic high trending slightly east of north through the claim. Essentially no mineral ization was seen and all assay values represent background only.
From all available geophysical, borehole, and outcrop data, there appears to be at least 4 ultramafic belts underlying the claim group. They all strike in a northeasterly direction and represent the western extension of the Dundonald Sill complex.
Both limbs of a large synclinal axis, plunging to the southwest, in the northern portion of the claim group were well tested. The northern limb?., which has been called the 'Overlying Lense' by Naldrett, was tested by borehole 40645, 40646, and 40647. This ultramafic-body consists mostly of a massive dunite which is underlain by barren felsic to intermediate flows and pyroclastics. The southern limb of this syncline was investigated by borehole? 40640, 40648. 40649, and 40650. This body, which is part of the differentiated Dundonald Sill, consists of peridotite vith a marginal footwall pyroxenite. One 12 ft. Section gave interesting metal, values but they were not duplicated in other boreholes. Underlying the ultramafics are variably mineralized felsic flows and pyroclastics with the best assay being D.8% copper
- 5 -
over 7,6 feet. The footwall volcanics in borehole 40650 are of more intermediate composition.
In the southern portion bf the claim group is another ultra mafic belt of peridotite composition interbedded with felsic pyroclastics, andesites and metasediments. This area was in vestigated by borehole 40641. This ultramafic is part of the Dundonald Sill that has been folded over an anticlinal axis. All the sampled units were essentially barren.
Borehole 40643 intersected another minor peridotite body* Its exact relationship with the Sill is not known but it is postulated to represent the remnant of a minor synclinal axis on the northern limb of the larger anticlinal structure discussed previously.
Conclusion
Most of the geophysical anomalies were investigated by diamond drilling and of the eleven boreholes drilled, only 40640 intersected mineralization above background. Boreholes 40648 and 40649 further tested this area to the west and east (respectively) with essentially negative results. This fact coupled^with |the high drilling costs (overburden averages more than 200 feet thick) suggests that no further work be done on the claim group. !
