DEFINITIONS

Postgraduate Medical Education may be

defined as the phase in which doctors train

under supervision towards independent practice

after completion of their basic medicalqualification. It comprises pre-registration

training, vocational/professional training,

specialist and sub-specialist training and other 

formalized training programmes. Uponcompletion of a formal postgraduate training

programme a degree diploma or certificate is

(CPD) designates the period of education

and training of doctors commencing after

CPD differs in principle from the preceding

two formal phases of medical education:

basic medical education and systematicpostgraduate medical training.

CPD mainly implies self-directed and

practice-based learning activities

rather than supervised training.

led to demands for systematicrecertification due to regulation written in

the constitution No 29, 2004, about
