Occlusion

• Normal relation of normal of the occlusal inclined planes of the teeth when the jaw are closed.

• Types: 1. Ideal occlusion-theoretical concept2. Physiological occlusion- deviates from ideal, still well

adapted3. Balanced theraupeutic- non-physiological to

physiological4. Traumatic- abnormal occlusal stress5. Trauma from occlusion- occlusal forces through

abnormal contacts.

Malocclusion

• Types:Intra-archInter-archSkeletal

Page 3: 2.occlusion dental vs skeletal

Intra-dental

• Malpositions of individual teeth in respect to adjacent teeth within the same dental arch.

• Hence also called intra-arch malocclusion.

1. Lingual displacement

2. Buccal tipping3. Lingual tipping4. Linguodistal/

mesiobuccal

1. Trasposition 13 and 14

Page 5: 2.occlusion dental vs skeletal

Inter-dental

• Malocclusion characterized by an abnormal relationship between teeth or group of teeth of one dental arch to that of the other arch.

Page 7: 2.occlusion dental vs skeletal

Skeletal

• Malocclusion are caused due to the defects in the underlying skeletal structure itself.

• Examples: Angle’s classification and Incisor’s classification

Dental Intra-arch Dental Inter-arch Skeletal -malocclusion

Variation in individual tooth position and malocclusion affecting a groups of teeth within an arch.

Comprise of malrelation of dental arches to one another upon other dental arch.

Abnormalities caused by underlying skeletal structure. The defects can be in size, position or relationship between the jaw.

Examples: distal tipping, MB rotation

Examples: overbite, cross-bite

Examples: lower facial height, retronagthism
