INTRODUCTIONworld Startup Expo, the three day mega event concluded successfully on 23 november 2016 at Bangalore International Exhibition Centre.
It was a massive gathering of 300 startup exhibitors, thousands of entrepreneurs, leading technology providers, investors, thought leaders, banks, policy makers, influencers and host of national and international speakers.
the event began on 21 november 2016 and comprised of a 3-day exhibition, 2-day conferences (wSE main conference and expo conference), four masterclasses conducted over the two days, and a 36-hour coding challenge - world tech Hackathon, pitch competitions to compete for the regional Startup world Cup and 100 open Startups level 3 and wSE awards all under one roof.

wSE Conference hosted some of the world’s leading and aspiring entrepreneurs and SmEs spanning across all industry verticals. It brought together the most disruptive startups, along with C-level executives from some of the top corporations, government agencies, incubators, investors, HnwIs, VC funds, banks, students and technology companies across the world. Amongst the attendees were some of the most influential thought leaders, experienced entrepreneurs, investors, key policy makers and startup enthusiasts.
The event featured numerous interactive panel discussions, fire-side chats, high level keynote presentations, startup stories and brain storming open-floor discussions.
wSE Conference commenced with the opening remarks by the Chairperson masroor lodi, Co-Founder and director of the Entrepreneurship School (tES), he also addressed the attendees with his opening keynote address on the ongoing wave of entrepreneurial enthusiasm and startup phenomenon among the younger generation. this was followed by the Welcome Note by ‘Nebu K. Abraham, Chief Executive Officer at Cocoon Ventures. this was followed by an interesting keynote by george molakal, Chief Executive Officer at Alcor Fund on Entrepreneurship and Growing Companies. Post George’s enthralling keynote the first sessions concluded with an interesting Fire side chat by Baybars Altuntas, global guru of Entrepreneurship, Bestselling Author, Angel Investor, dragon of the Dragons’ Den and Ankur Dinesh Garg, ‘Artificial Intelligence & Cognitive Computing Evangelist’.
the session resumed with a need of the hour panel discussion on ‘Biggest Challenge for startups is to manage without wasting resources’ which was moderated by Sneha Banerjee, Senior Correspondent, Entrepreneur India and the panellists included Karthik Prabhakar, director at Idg Ventures; ruchira Shukla, regional Bank at IFC world Bank; denny Kurien, President & CEO at Keiretsu Forum, Archana, Venture Partner at Unicorn Ventures.
this was followed by an interesting fire -side chat by Sumit Chakraberty, Senior Editor at tech in Asia along with dr. Apoorv ranjan Sharma, President & Co-Founder at Venture Catalysts. the second session concluded with one of the most inspiring startup stories in India by Amit gupta, Co-Founder & President at In Mobi. The third session resumed with an exceptional keynote by ravi Belani, managing director at Alchemist Accelerator. this was followed by a presentation on rAK Free trade Zone and rAK Investment Authority. the next speaker dr. ritesh malik, Chief Executive Officer at Innov8 captured the attention of the audience by sharing his successful entrepreneurial journey.
This was followed by an interesting panel discussion on ‘Challenges & Reward for Angel Investors Both lie with the Entrepreneurs’ moderated by Baybars Altuntas, Chair at world Business Angels Investment Forum and the panellists included nagaraja Prakasam, Partner at Acumen Fund; utsav Somani, India, Angel list; mahavir Pratap Sharma, Chairman and Co-Founder at rain rajasthan Angels and Abhishek Sanghvi, Co-Founder at Swan Angel network. the last keynote of the third session saw one of the most leading author ranjan malik, managing director, Storm the norm who delivered a presentation on Innovations and Storm the norm design. the last session of the day kick-started with a keynote presentation by Harshad lahoti, Founding Partner at ah! Ventures who delivered an intriguing presentation on Angels & Demons. This was followed by another keynote by Bruno rondani, Founder at 100 open Startups who delivered a presentation on ‘leading organizations to Innovate Smarter’. the last speaker of the day was one of the youngest aspiring entrepreneur in India, Anubhav Wadhwa, Chief Executive Officer & Founder at Tyrelessly who shared his startup story. the wSE Conference at the Expo Arena commenced with a keynote speech by Pavan Soni, Founder & Innovation Evangelist at Inflexion Point Consulting on ‘Entrepreneurship As a Viable Career’. this was followed by another keynote by K Prabhakar Jayakumar, India Country manager at digital ocean on ‘Business lifecycle – from ideation to liquidity’. the session resumed with a presentation on ‘Strategic Intellectual Property management’ by lokesh Venkataswamy, managing director at Innomantra Consulting. the second session kick-started with a keynote by Ankita Sheth, Co-Founder at Vista rooms on going global, Staying Frugal.
This was followed by a keynote by Susmita Das Gupta, Founder & Chief Ideator at Smart Ideas on why is personal branding important. this was followed by a short story by Arjun Pillai, Co-Founder, Profoundis, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in India who shared his experience on how he failed numerous times until he found success. the session resumed with a keynote by rahul Bhagchandani, youth Connect Foundation & CEO, GUSEC on ‘Startup and the role of the government’. the last keynote was delivered by marius westhoff, Founding team and Vertical Head at up grad, who presented an interesting study on ‘how can entrepreneurship be taught?’ day one concluded with networking session.
The first master class of the day was delivered by rachna Sharma, life Strategist, leadership Expert, Speaker, Philanthropist & Entrepreneur Founder & MD - Magnum Opus, on ‘Be The One-Life Above & Beyond A title’.
the second master class of the day was delivered by dr. Paritosh Basu, Senior Professor, School of Business management at nmImS university, India on ‘Strategic Cost management For Value Creation In Startups’.

the next session resumed with a captivating keynote presentation by Jatin goel, Creator at the Vault on ‘Fostering the Indian Startup Ecosystem - what role should you play?’ this was followed by a startup story by gloria Benny, Co-Founder at guardians of dreams. the Conference concluded with the closing remarks by the chairperson ranjan malik, managing director, Storm the norm.
the session resumed with an inspiring short story by Sarthak Paul, Founder & Director, Mean Metal Motors. This was followed by an absorbing fire side chat by Matt Kuppers, Chief Executive Officer at Start-up Manufactory and Sandeep Agarwal, Founder at Shop Clues & Droom.

the third day commenced with Startup world Cup pitch competition where the top 25 shor-tlisted startups amongst the 300 applicants got to pitch to the Fenox Jury panel. one amongst the 25 Startups was crowned the champion of India and the crowned startup will travel to San Francisco to compete for uS$ 1 million grand Prize on the 24 march 2017. the number of Startups who would be competing at the Startup world Cup Competition would be 16, that is comprising eleven startups form eleven different countries who would be representing their respective countries and five representing United States.
the one startup which gets to represent India was picked from world Startup Expo. one startup amongst the 16 startups who would be pitching will be crowned the champion of the world and the winner will receive 1 million uSd. this was followed by the Awards night and gala dinner where startups representing different industry and sectors were awarded for their valuable contribution to the Indian startup ecosystem.
wSE Exhibition Arena witnessed an enthralling participation from thousands of startups and investors from all over the world who witnessed more than 300 exhibitors from pan India across 50+ industries who showcased their ideas and innovations. there was huge enthusiasm and curiosity in the visitors who showed interest in different technologies, innovative approaches and the many ways to implement them. Startups from sectors like Vr/Ar, robotics, drone technology, 3d printing, wearable technology as well as electric mobility were highly sought after.
the exhibition took place in a massive hall that also had an extended conference arena (conference sessions that was open for all visitors) and a dedicated entertainment and music arena. It also hosted product launches and demos by various startups, ranging from agriculture to virtual reality. the world Startup Expo was well received and much appreciated by all the participants.
