development and educational programs successful outcomes are seamlessly aligned with the central goal s of the newly published Leading on Opportunity Report. This report, inspired by the 2014 Harvard University study on economic mobility establishing Charlotte as the nations 50th least favorable city out of 50 for economic and social mobility underscored the critical collaborative challenge facing

the Greater Charlotte Region. Through our Continuum of Opportunity model, our customers are equipped with core skills and national certification pre-apprenticeship job training needed for high demand careers that has proven to sustain upward economic and social mobility. An ecosystem of key business and social sectors partners collaborate with ULCC to offer an array of opportunities across the Charlotte community to ensure that education, training, and job placement inspires individual dignity.

Microsoft Office and Customer Service*This course features two tracks in Microsoft Office certification and International Customer Service Certification with optional scheduling. Clients will also receive development in core job readiness skills, Working Smart Certification which includes job readiness, and financial literacy. Job placement services are also available.Length: 6 weeksHours: Monday - ThursdayMicrosoft Office - 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Customer Service - 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Fiber Optic Broadband and Premise Cabling*The Broadband Fiber Optic curriculum is designed to develop skills in the theory and real world application of broadband telecommunication technology, including the use of hand tools, various cable installation techniques, the use of computerized equipment, safety regulations and customer service. This course is specially designed in two phases for both entry level and experienced individuals. Upon completion, participants are prepared to sit for the Certified Premise Cabling Technician and

the Certified Fiber Optic Technician exams offered through the Fiber Optic Association (FOA). Length: 5 weeksHours: Monday - Thursday, 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC)*HVAC curriculum is focused on the knowledge and hands-on skills needed to be ready for certification and immediate entry-level employment. Topics covered include mechanical refrigeration, heating and cooling theory, electricity, controls, and safety. While in training, a student will sit for their National EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required by most employers, which allows an individual to work with Freon associated with air conditioning and refrigeration. Length: 3.5 months (416 contact hours)Hours: Monday - Thursday, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

NCDOT Highway Construction Trades Academy*The goal of the Highway Construction Trade Academy (HCTA) is to prepare women, minorities and disadvantaged individuals from Tier 1 Counties for a career in the highway

construction industries. The objectives are to access the needs, improve soft skills, develop a working

knowledge of preparing for employment, improve carpentry math skills, introduce basic highway construction

fields, discuss industry safety standards and introduce construction equipment. Length: 2 monthsHours: Monday - Thursday, 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Duke Energy Lineworker Apprenticeship (CAST)This 8-week Duke Energy Construction Skills and Trade (CAST) prep course is an opportunity to gain entrance into line technician, solar, construction and other utility positions. CAST training consist of: graphic arithmetic, mechanical concepts, reading comprehension and mathematical usage in technical and construction fields. Additionally Fiber Optic training in electronics, data cabling, splicing wiring concepts, overall connectivity, installation, and troubleshooting.Length: 2 monthsHours: Monday - Thursday, 6 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

High School Equivalency Diploma (HSE formerly GED)This HSE course includes instructor-led coursework in addition to life skills and empowerment training, job placement assistance and continuing education assistance. The goal of this program is to obtain the required classroom training

hours and increase math and reading competency. Participants who pass the exams in reading, science, social studies, math and writing will be eligible to receive a General Equivalency Diploma. Length: 8 week cycle (instructor-led) plus open lab hours

Linking Youth to Technology through Education (LYTE)Afterschool ProgramOffered at Sterling Elementary, River Gate Elementary, Kennedy Middle and Southwest Middle Schools, This afterschool program offers robust math, reading and technology education. Elementary schools use the i-Ready curriculum which combines a valid and reliable adaptive K–12 diagnostic, individualized online instruction, and teacher-led instruction in a single product.

Digital Connectors*Students participating in the Digital Connectors Program engage in leadership development, media education, life skills training, and community service. The technology component of the program consists of a 156-hour, instructor-led CISCO IT Essentials curriculum. Students take a final exam to receive their CISCO IT Essentials Certificate. The course also prepares students to begin the self-study required for the CompTIA certification course.

Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP)The Urban Youth Empowerment Program (UYEP) aims to address the employment barriers of court-involved youth and young adults, ages 14 to 24, while helping them attain in-demand occupational and employment skills needed to obtain sustainable careers. UYEP RISE aims to provide participants with the opportunity to build relationships with positive, caring adults; A targeted educational and workforce curriculum that builds on their interests and goals; Exposure to stipend-paying, real-world opportunities to gain technical and soft skills; Linkages to comprehensive community support and services to address barriers to success; The opportunity to give back to their communities and reestablish linkages.

Project Ready Mentor 4PR4 helps 11-18 year old students make academic progress, benefit from cultural enrichment opportunities and develop important skills, attitudes and aptitudes that will aid in their transition from high school and position them for post-secondary success.

Youth Academic EnhancementThe ULCC Academic Enrichment Program provides tutoring and academic support for youth in grades 6-12 who have been involved in the juvenile justice system or who are at risk for involvement. This Saturday academy utilizes an evidence-based, web-based curriculum that provides enrichment in reading, and math. In addition, one-on-one, tutoring assistance is provided. A supplemental, module-based life skills component is also part of the program. Field trips, a college tour and a business tour, will expose youth to career options beyond the classroom.Length: 20 weeksHours: 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m., Saturdays only
