BLOCKING MACHINES-Blocking has been a key to TCU’s defensive game since Kramer’s arrival and they have not let many attacks past them at the net. -With 301.0 total blocks on the season and 2.95 blocks per set, the Horned Frogs finished at No. 7 nationally and No. 1 in the Big 12 in 2015. -The Frogs out-blocked their opponents 25 times in 2015 and were only out-blocked in only four matches.-So far this season, TCU has posted double-digit blocks in 10 matches including eight of the Big 12 matches-They have out-blocked their opponents in 20 of the 26 matches this season

2016 TCU Volleyball Match Notes Dec. 2 // NCAA First Round vs. Wichita State
-This season, Gower has taken the leading role in blocking and is currently shutting down the net with 1.26 blocks per set-After a slow blocking start to 2016, McGuire has picked it up as conference play has started and is averaging 1.00 blocks per set
THE RETURN OF ASHLEY-After a knee injury that ended the 2015 season for All-American Ashley Smith, the senior has been making her way back to form and came up huge in the 3-2 win over No. 8 UNC. -The outside hitter spent the first half of preseason as libero for TCU before fully recovering to make her way back into the offensive lineup. -The League City, Texas native finished with 15 kills on 29 swings with no errors for a .517 hitting clip to go along with 16 digs for her first double-double of the season. -A key leader on and off the court for the Frogs, Smith has recorded a double-double in seven matches played this season with six of them coming in conference action-Smith led TCU in conference matches with 2.18 kills per set, while also picking up 2.65 digs per set
SANDY FROGS-The spring time is not an offseason anymore for TCU volleyball as the players can now become dual sport athletes with the TCU beach volleyball program-Beach volleyball is the fastest growing sport in NCAA history with 72 schools now sponsoring the sport as it enters its second season as an official NCAA sport-TCU is one of only three schools in the state of Texas with a beach program and the only one in the Big 12-Senior outside hitters Jillian Bergeson and Sarita Mikals are now dual sport athletes after spending this past spring on the TCU beach volleyball team-Mikals played on the No. 1 team with Michelle McNamee and the duo went 15-7 during the season while Bergeson played only at the No. 3 position with Jaelyn Green and went 19-5-Mikals is putting down 2.10 kills per set this season and Bergeson is the anchor in the backrow with 3.69 digs per set
SCHEEVEL TO THE RESCUE-After being one of the first people off the bench when TCU is in trouble, Kayla Scheevel was moved to the libero position and was a much needed defensive player to add depth to the Horned Frog program-A junior transfer from Irvine Community College, Scheevel donned the libero jersey for the first time against Creighton and in her first start against Chattanooga, she picked up 22 digs which is tied for the second most in the Big 12 in three-set matches-So far this season, Scheevel has appeared in 24 of the 26 TCU matches and has totaled 206 digs and 2.94 digs per set.
THEY FOUND A HOME IN FORT WORTH-Six of TCU’s primary players did not start their careers in Fort Worth, but quickly found their way to Cowtown. -Starting outside hitters Sarita Mikals (Houston) and Jillian Bergeson (Pepperdine) started their careers elsewhere and the TCU 6-2 would not be possible without transfers Lamprini Konstantinidou (West Virginia) and Kaylee Smith (Iowa). -The newest additions to the roster include AVCA All-East Coast Region Freshman of the Year Anna Walsh (Virginia) and junior college transfer Kayla Scheevel (Irvine Community College).
YOU LOOK VERY FAMILIAR-For the first time in program history, the TCU volleyball team saw a non-conference opponent more than once during the preseason. -Although the Frogs are used to seeing Big 12 opponents twice a year, the team welcomed North Carolina to Fort Worth for the second match in a home-and-home series with the Tar Heels on Sept. 17. -UNC snagged the 3-0 win in the first match played in Chapel Hill, N.C., but TCU took the second match, 3-2 in the finale of non-conference matches this season.
WE HEART OUR FRESHMEN-The 2016 TCU volleyball recruiting class was ranked No. 15 according to the Top 30 Collegiate Recruiting Classes that was released by PrepVolleyball.com, marking the first time in program
