As many of you already know, we have designed the YAGP experience in such a way that every participant, regardless of their level of training or career goals, can benefit greatly from the multitude of educational and professional opportunities available throughout the event. We hope you will enjoy learning from each other as well as the many distinguished dance professionals gathered here. Judges & Teachers – YAGP 2015 Seattle, WA
Patricia Barker Patricia Barker received her ballet training on scholarship at Boston Ballet School and Pacific Northwest Ballet School. She has performed with Pacific Northwest Ballet and appeared as a Guest Artist with companies and Galas around the world. Her film credits include Nutcracker the Motion Picture and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Ms. Barker has staged and coached ballets for Texas Ballet Theater, Oregon Ballet Theater, and Slovak National Ballet, where she has served as Artistic Advisor. She has taught at Pacific Northwest Ballet School, Pittsburgh Ballet Theater School, North Carolina School of the Arts, and Boston Ballet School. She serves on the advisory boards of Pointe Magazine, CriticalDance.com, California Ballet and Minnesota Dance. She is currently the Artistic Director of the Grand Rapids Ballet
Phillip Broomhead Phillip Broomhead joined Houston Ballet's artistic staff as ballet master after an illustrious two-decade career as a dancer. He was born in London, England, trained at The Royal Ballet School, and joined The Royal Ballet in 1981. He was promoted to soloist in 1983 and to principal in 1986. Mr. Broomhead joined Houston Ballet as a principal dancer in January of 1991 and made his debut in Ben Stevenson's Cinderella. He was featured in all of Mr. Stevenson's ballets, and many other works. He retired from Houston Ballet as a dancer in June 2004 after performing with the company for thirteen years. He has recently retired as ballet master from Houston Ballet.
Sally Herrera Rojas
Sally Rojas is a native of Caracas, Venezuela. She moved to Miami at the age of 10 and began her Ballet training with Thomas Amour, Robert Pike and Judith Reece Newman. She trained further at the School of American Ballet and American Ballet Theater. She joined ABT II at 16. Ms. Rojas joined Houston Ballet Company and danced as a Soloist until her retirement in 2004. Since her retirement she has been a leading Faculty Member of the Houston Ballet Ben Stevenson Academy. Gary Lewis
Gary Lewis was born, raised and trained in the US Virgin Islands. He spent his summers training at Dance Theatre of Harlem under the tutelage of Arthur Mitchell. His professional career began with the Capitol Ballet of Washington, DC, and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble in Denver, CO. He made his Broadway debut with “The Lion King”, later performing on the National Tour.
Carla Korbes Carla Körbes was born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and began her ballet training at age five with local teachers. At age eleven, she began studying at Ballet Vera Bublitz. In 1996, Peter Boal danced with her as a guest artist of the school and encouraged her to come to New York to study at the School of American Ballet. For academic year 1997–1998, her tuition was paid by Alexandra Danilova so she could continue studying at the School of American Ballet. In 1999, she was the Mae. L. Wien Award recipient and was made an apprentice with New York City Ballet. She joined the company as a member of the corps de ballet in 2000 and was the Janice Levin Dancer Honoree for 2001–2002. She was promoted to soloist in 2005 and later that year joined Pacific Northwest Ballet as a soloist. Ms. Körbes was promoted to principal dancer in 2006.
Stephanie Saland Stephanie Saland was born in Brooklyn, and entered The School of American Ballet at age 15. Three years later she was invited by George Balanchine to join the New York City Ballet and in her 21-year career with the company, she was showcased in leading roles under Balanchine’s direction, as well as principal roles in Jerome Robbins’ repertoire. Guest performances included “Nureyev and Friends,” “Giselle” with Alexander Gudonov and numerous “Live From Lincoln Center” and “Dance in America” films. Since finishing her performance career in 1993, Ms. Saland has been a freelance instructor, traveling to teach in New York, New Jersey, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Kansas City, Buenos Aires, Copenhagen, Madrid and Mallorca.
