Ahhhh! The second term has come to an end. Eleven weeks seems a long time (I have no idea how teachers coped back in the days of three terms and 13- 14 week terms). We certainly seemed to pack a lot into our term. Next term is looking equally busy. The seniors will be spending a week at Lakewood Lodge in Glen Massey for their senior camp. We have school cross country, plus I have a couple of ideas for whole school experiences. I know that this is a really busy time for farmers and the school will do their best to give as much warning of planned trips as we can. The majority of students were sent home this week with a progress report and I hope you enjoyed reading them. As a staff we have spent quite a lot of time talking about what we as parents would like to see in our children’s reports and decided that one of the most important things was to get a sense that our child’s teacher knew them, had positive things to say, and could talk about what came next in terms of their learning. I think our new progress report design works well but would love to hear your feedback. Whilst talking reports, I would like to reiterate the point about National Standards. The NS are a line in the sand; a achievement point based upon curriculum levels. They are designed and intended to be achieved (by the average student) at the end of the year ’s schooling. This means that many students progress reports would have said working towards the standard or likely to achieve the standard. Please do not be concerned if your child is not at the NS for their age at this point of the year. If they all were then the NS would be wrong. These holidays I am intending to give myself a break for the first week. It is no great secret that I spend a lot of time at work. The last 18 months have been hugely rewarding, but very tiring. I intend to relax and come back refreshed, ready to give Kaihere School my very best for the next two terms and beyond. Hopefully I will see some of you on Saturday night at the Cryptic Dinner do and we can all have a great night over a lemonade or three.
