. I am looking forward to tomorrow’s parent /student / teacher learning conferences (which by the time you read this may be about to begin or have already taken place). It is widely accepted that we have a need to move away from a knowledge-based educa- tion system, to one that is more focussed on skills development. Some of the skills that we are trying to foster in our students are the ability to recognise where they are in their learning journey and what are possible next steps. Getting children to have mean- ingful discussions about their learning is a step in the right direction for them to become independent learners. The learner conferences will give us some idea of how successful we are with developing this skill in our students and what our (the school and staff) next steps in learning are. SPEED Sometimes things do not go at the pace you want them to. I have so many ideas and plans for the school, (such as developing room 5 as a discovery centre where kids can build, pull things apart, make a mess and generally through themselves whole- heartedly into learning through discovery and experience). As parents it can be frustrating to see things take longer than expected. Please bear in mind that in a small school there often aren’t the same number of staff to share the load. Like the shampoo ad says, it won’t happen overnight, but it will happen. Your patience and continued support of the school is crucial to our future success. Terry Now that heading has caught your attention, we have a VAST amount of lost property / clothing at school. Last Friday I emptied the lost property box and took all the clothes home to wash. By Tuesday the box was half full again! I will be putting out the lost property for student / parent / teacher interviews. Any unnamed-unclaimed clothing left after that will be given to the Salvation Army PRINCIPAL’S PIECE (A.K.A.
