LOCK HAVEN HEAD COACH: A veteran head coach at the NCAA Division II level, Dave Taynor is finishing his first season at Lock Haven. He previously posted a 37-40 overall record in seven years as head coach at Urbana, his alma mater. Taylor led the Blue Knights while they were members of three different conferences and also an independent program. In 2011, Urbana posted its winningest season in school history at 8-3 overall.
SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES: Lock Haven features one of the top scoring offenses in school history this season, averaging over 25.0 points/game just three years after scoring less than 100 points in a season. Junior quarterback Caleb Walton already has broken the single-season school record with 21 touchdown passes and has passed for over 1,200 yards in the last four games behind three 300-yard performances. The Bald Eagles boast four different players with at least 30 receptions, 440 receiving yards and four touchdowns this year. Junior wide receiver Dan Krupko, who played for Taynor at Urbana, leads the team with 527 receiving yards and seven touchdowns, while ranking fourth with 31 receptions. Fellow junior Shawn Seif has posted a team-leading 44 receptions, including a combined 21 catches in the last two weeks, despite missing four games this season. Lock Haven averages 165.0 rushing yards/game behind the tandem of junior Malyk Harris and senior Beau Swales. Harris ranks among the league leaders with 776 rushing yards, while Swales has rushed for 524 yards this year. Defensively, Lock Haven features two of the top-five tacklers in the PSAC with senior linebacker Tony Ballon sitting second in the league with 99 stops (49 solo) and junior defensive back Rahjeir Miles-Eubanks ranking fifth with 88 tackles (58 solo). On special teams, the Bald Eagles feature one of the most veteran punters in the PSAC in senior Bryce Stambaugh, who is averaging 37.5 yards/punt this season.
WHO’S IN: The latest Super Region One rankings were released on Monday and the PSAC features three teams in the rankings with Cal U moving up to eighth. The region consists of four conferences - PSAC, MEC, CIAA and NE-10 - and no league earns an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Playoffs. Starting this fall, the regional playoffs will feature seven teams and only the top team in the final regional rankings will receive a first-round bye.
STREAK CONTINUES: Sophomore John Franklin III rushed for a pair of touchdowns last weekend to extend his streak of consecutive games with a rushing touchdown to 10. He is looking to become the first player since Antoine Bagwell in 2005 to rush for a score in every game of a season. A first-year starter, Franklin is tied for third in the PSAC with 15 rushing touchdowns this season and sits 10th in the league with 765 rushing yards.
SOLID FOUNDATION: The Vulcans have started all 10 games this season with the same five offensive linemen at the same position – left tackle Zach Morehead, left guard Tyler Peerson, center Taylor Nikithser, right guard Jeremy Seaman and right tackle Grant Jones. The group consists of two seniors, two juniors and one sophomore with a combined 102 career starts and Peerson is the team’s active leader with 31 starts, all consecutive.
TACKLING TERRY: Since moving from cornerback to safety in Week 7, junior Aaron Terry ranks second on the team with 28 tackles (18 solo) despite missing one game due to a targeting penalty. He has posted double-digit tackles twice in his last three games, including a career-high 13 stops (eight solo) last week. Terry has shattered his career high with 61 stops (41 solo) this year and has matched his career best of four interceptions.

CAREER NUMBERS: Senior quarterback James Harris passed for 316 yards and two touchdowns last weekend to reach career milestones in both categories. He became the third quarterback in school history with 7,000 passing yards (7,050) and the fifth with at least 50 passing touchdowns (51). Harris needs 299 passing yards this weekend to become the first quarterback in school history to eclipse 3,000 passing yards multiple times in a career.
T.O.P. MISNOMER: The Vulcans rank next to last in the 16-team PSAC this season in time of possession, averaging just 27 minutes, 50 seconds/game, but average over 30 points/game. In last week’s victory, Cal U controlled the ball for only 22:18 and ran 35 less plays than Mercyhurst yet still held the advantage in total offense. The Vulcans have posted a 4-2 mark this season in games they have possessed the ball for less than 30 minutes.
RECORD CHASER: Senior wide receiver Kowan Scott finished with 60 receiving yards last week to move into a tie for second place in school history with 2,524 career receiving yards. He enters the final weekend of the regular season just nine yards shy of breaking the school’s all-time record held by former NFL wide receiver Perry Kemp (1980-83), who also still holds the school record with 165 career receptions (Scott - 129 receptions).
BLOCK PARTY: The Vulcans recorded multiple blocked kicks last week for the second time this fall and are tied for third in the PSAC with five blocks. On the first drive of the game for Mercyhurst, senior Chaz Veal blocked a 31-yard field goal with 9:01 left in the first quarter. Later in the game, junior Jordan Lardani blocked a 23-yard field goal after the Lakers accepted a penalty just four plays earlier that wiped off a successful 23-yard attempt.
CATCHING PLENTY: Junior Garry Brown posted six receptions for 155 yards with one touchdown last weekend, marking his fourth 100-yard game this season and ninth of his career. With his performance, he vaulted from eighth to fifth in the school record book with 2,175 career receiving yards (349 yards behind Scott). Brown led the PSAC in receiving yards/game as a sophomore and ranks second in the league this season with 102.3 yards/game.
IN THE GROOVE: Senior defensive lineman Errol Brewster enters the weekend leading the team and tied for fifth in the league with a career-high 7.0 sacks this season. He has registered at least 1.0 sack in each of the last three games and has tallied at least 0.5 TFL in eight-straight games. Brewster sits second on the team with 9.0 TFL this fall and is tied for the PSAC lead with three forced fumbles despite not playing since the 2012 season.
CHAMPIONSHIP SATURDAY: The champion in three of the four conferences in Super Region One will be decided with title games on Saturday. In the PSAC, Slippery Rock will travel to West Chester with The Rock looking to become the first repeat champion in the league since the reinstatement of the title game in 2008. In the CIAA, Winston-Salem State and Bowie State will play for the title, while the NE-10 features New Haven against Assumption in the lone title game featuring multiple regionally-ranked teams.
BIT OF EVERYTHING: Last weekend, senior defensive back Chaz Veal registered a strip sack, blocked a field goal and posted an 80-yard interception return. He leads the team with a career-high 65 tackles (42 solo) this year and has added three interceptions.
