Today OLE has three unique art programs to support each childs artistic development. Programs are completely community- and volunteer-based and funded by the OLE PTA! White Bear Center for the Arts (WBCA) Six annual art classes taught by WBCAs Community Art Instructors Art in the Classroom(AITC) Monthly art classes taught by volunteers Art Adventure (AA) Minneapolis Institute of Arts annual art program taught by volunteers OLEs Art Program Objectives To educate students about the basic art concepts of line, shape, texture, color and art appreciation. To bring these concepts to life through creative projects, classroom discussion and individual expression. OLEs Art Program Website Includes all AITC lesson plans and discussion tips for each concept (line, shape, texture, color) organized by grade level Concise project descriptions, helpful hints and special instructions, recommended books to support the lesson, power point presentations, etc. Art examples exhibiting specific concepts Artist information/bios Teacher and Coordinator contact information Art Room calendar Art in the Classroom (AITC) / Overview Monthly lessons focus on a single concept (line, shape, texture, color)and include a project with hands-on art time. Can be take place in the classroom or the Art Room (based on room availability). AITC / Roles & Responsibilities ROLERESPONSIBILITY TIME COMMITMENT AITC Grade Level Coordinators Contact for grade-specific questions and concerns Plan art projects Create lesson plans Order supplies Create art sample Assist Classroom Coordinators as necessary 4 to 5 hours per month AITC Grade Level Coordinators: Kindergarten / Mara WinkeGrade 3 / Heather Smythe Grade 1 / Rene McCabeGrade 4 / Michelle Selb-Sack & JJ Parker Grade 2 / Ellen MaruyamaGrade 5 / Ellen Maruyama AITC / Roles & Responsibilities ROLE RESPONSIBILITY TIME COMMITMENT AITC Classroom Coordinators Primary contact for each classroom Schedule classes* Review online lesson plan Room set-up and clean up Lead class discussion Assist students 2 to 3 hours per month AITC Classroom Volunteers Review online lesson plan Help with set-up and clean up Assist students Cover for Coordinator if not available 1 to 2 hours per month * Coordinate with teacher and art room availability AITC / Clay Each grade has the opportunity to create a clay project Two dates are required to schedule clay lessons: Date 1 to Create Date 2 to Glaze (done together by grade level) Project Creation 7-10 day dry time Fire Projects AITC / Clay Process Overview Glaze Projects Projects cool (1 day) Projects cool (1 day) Fire Projects Distribute to Students The Art Room Space and Supplies Lesson Box A hard copy of the lesson plan, samples of the project, and all project materials are in a box -- titled per grade -- in the Art Closet closest to kiln room. The entire grade uses these materials for the month so please keep it neat for the next class. Extra Supplies Additional supplies can be found in the padlocked closet (lock combination in kiln room, next to light switch). Supplies running low or not working? Art Adventure (AA) / Overview Program created by Minneapolis Institute of Art Discussion-only in classroom to explore global art / art appreciation concepts Lesson consists of three 30 to 45-minute discussions - November 2015 Training at MIA: various day and evening dates available in September and October Committee: Michelle Blankenship Jill Macioch Ellen Maruyama Rene McCabe JJ Parker Mara Winke AA / Roles & Responsibilities ROLERESPONSIBILITY TIME COMMITMENT AA Committee Liaison between OLE and Minneapolis Institute of Art Schedule classes* Plan / Research art handout Schedule training for volunteers Collect/Drop off MIA props Manage/Purchase supplies AA Classroom Volunteers Attend MIA training** Review program booklet Lead 30 to 45-min discussion with students 1 hour, 3 times Nov 2015 ONLY * Coordinate with teachers and volunteers availability ** Suggested but not mandatory OLEs Art Programs Scheduling AITC Coordinators schedule lesson dates with teachers and on the Art Room Calendar The Art Room is shared with WBCA, Extended Day (before and after school) and teachers as they need it throughout the year. All clay dates, glazing, and painting lessons held in the Art Room, if possible AA Committee will schedule with teachers 45-min. to 1-hour lessons Committee will contact volunteers to assign classroom dates/ times Thank you so much for your time and commitment to OLEs Art Program.
