who is AKFCAga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is a non-profit international development agency, working in Asia and Africa to find sustain-able solutions to the complex problems causing global poverty. Mandates include addressing social, economic and cultural dimen-sions of development and is active in 30 countries with a shared mission to improve living conditions and opportunities for the poor, without regard to their faith, origin or gender.

ProJeCTs: rUrAL DeVeLoPMeNT

Social Change Starts Here: Reducing poverty in remote, re-source-poor or degraded environments is central to AKFC’s rural development programs. At the heart of this strategy are village development organizations, which AKFC supports in identifying development priorities, mobilizing local resources and implementing village development plans.

This approach began more than 30 years ago as an experi-ment in the isolated valleys of northern Pakistan. It has since helped transform the lives of more than a million men and women and is now used around the world, from the coastal villages of northern Mozambique to the mountains and valleys of Afghanistan.

A Bridge to the Future: Every country needs leaders who are equipped with the tools, knowledge and confidence to build a solid foundation for development. To improve the quality of education, AKFC supports programs which ensure better care and learning environments for the next genera-tion, by investing in education systems and the training of

teachers across the spectrum of learning – from early child-hood to primary, secondary, and advanced education – and increasing community involvement in the planning and administration of schools and education.

Access to Quality Health Care: Despite unprecedented advances in global health, citizens of the developing world continue to suffer from lack of access to high-quality, dependable medical treatment and the spread of prevent-able diseases. AKFC supports a broad range of health initia-tives that enhance healthcare institutions and services, train

and equip professionals with the skills to provide better quality care, and improve the health of both women and men – with special attention to maternal and child health.


CANADiAN sUPPorT The 2013 World Partnership Golf Tournament (WPG) was held in 7 cities across Canada and raised over $1.5 million in support of AKFC. This was possible due to the continued loyalty and sup-port of our sponsors, players and volunteer team. Collectively the tournaments have raised over $9.5 million since their inception in 2000.

WPG is fast becoming one of Canada’s most popular charitable tournament of the summer. It has done so by focusing on creating a unique experience for all participants. Opportunities for fun and business networking blend seamlessly throughout the day. All WPG participants, golfers and want-to-be golfers, know at the end of a memor-able day, their participation has resulted in a mean-ingful contribution to alleviating global poverty.
