Did you know??Obituary

Jeannette Charles 88, passed away on October 17 in Sun City, Arizona. Her husband, Bill, and she pastored at Chapel from 1959-1964, where they lived in the parsonage across the road. They had four children, Linda, Ronald, Daniel and John, six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Bill and Jeannette helped lead one of Chapel’s first mission trips – to the Red Bird Mission in KY in 1960. Bill and Ron preceded her in death.

There are many fond memories of the Charles family at Chapel. Carolyn Kloster recalls that the Charles’ four children were very close in age to the five Fleming children. Bill called their house the Flemingo Motel, and joked when all the lights were on in the house! Many of us remember Bill’s monkey stories that he told during Sunday night church.

Daughter Linda’s address is: Dennis and Linda Henrichs

Our Circle of

Concern

Girls Night OutOn Sunday, October 26, nine GMG girls (five from Chapel), along with their moms, attended the “Secret Keeper Girl Crazy Hair” tour at New Covenant Bible Church in Cedar Rapids. The night was a lot of fun and included a crazy hair contest with music and fashion from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s, truth or dare fashion tests, and two worship sessions. Our memory verse from the night was 2 Corinthians 5:13-14, "If I acted crazy, I did it for God. . . Christ's love has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in everything we do." It was a great night of growing our girls in the love of Jesus Christ!

Worship Attendance

Children’s HopeChestHey Chapel!

With Orphan Sunday being recognized recently and Christmas coming up, there is no better time to read this article and see what God does in your heart! I know just how generous the hearts are at Chapel Church, because I've experienced it the past couple months. God has blessed both my family and me, and I'm hoping to pay it forward! There are so many children in Ongongoja who are waiting for a "friend"(or sponsor)! The wonderful thing about sponsoring a child through Children's HopeChest is that you have the opportunity to go visit your kids someday! I don't want to overwhelm you with my email, since there is so much information in this blog post at the bottom of the page. If you do have any questions, feel free to contact Lori Somers or me. My email is sn.richter.2012@gmail. If you have any detailed questions about HopeChest as an organization, feel free to contact Dylan DeBruin [email protected] or [email protected] read this and let God work in your heart!

With love,Siera Richter_______________________________________________________ Angel Tree/Food BoxesWe hope you will participate in the Angel Tree project. Also, the Northwest Tama County Food Pantry, which serves Gladbrook, Garwin & Lincoln, work with the Angel Tree project to provide a food box with the Angel gifts. Chapel NewsBELIZE MISSION TEAM MEETS

The informational meeting for prospective Belize Mission Team members was held in the church basement at 12:30 on Sunday, November 2, 2014. Nine prospective team members were present along with guests, Gerhard and Clara Koop from Belize. • Randy Beichley led devotions with scripture readings from Jeremiah 1:5 and 2 Timothy 4:12, focusing on the

participants being obedient to God’s calling to share His love with others.• Dan Beane gave an illustrated introduction to the Cayo Deaf Institute, the supporting community of Spanish

Lookout, Belize, some examples of past projects, and potential projects for this trip. • The Belizean guests, Gerhard and Clara Koop, answered questions from the group.• Jay Beichley taught the group a handful of words in sign language.• Susan Beichley explained the plans for the trip including proposed dates of July 20, 2015, through August 5,

2015, budgeted costs of $1,700 for each participant, and the preliminary itinerary. The team’s agenda will focus on a work project at CDI, but will also include individual visits to host homes and churches, as well as visiting an ancient Mayan archeological site and a closing day of snorkeling and debriefing on a tropical island. A day-long project in a Spanish-speaking community is also being investigated. She also explained that the two-fold purpose of the trip is to assist in the mission of the Cayo Deaf Institute and to strengthen the faith of the participants which will be done through daily team devotions and prayer. Finally, she stressed that anyone needing financial assistance should contact her or Dan Beane, as the leadership does not want finances to prevent anyone from participating.

The members shared anxieties they had about the mission trip and many of these issues were discussed.

Prospective participants were asked to make a commitment by December 7th. The next meeting of the team is

scheduled for January 11th. Members are asked to bring ideas for a team theme and supporting Bible verse as well as ideas for t-shirt logos.

The meeting closed with a prayer circle.

Leon showed the member how to tighten up the beams for annual maintenance as he is not on the committee next year. To prepare the Prayer room, which will be the small room off the stage, for a warm atmosphere it will cost around $500.00. This includes paint, lighting and lowering the ceiling. One member donated a wireless microphone – Thank you. Leon called the other trustees about the church awning, which will be located on the east side of the church by the fellowship hall entrance. To fix this it will be anywhere from $12,000.00 to $15,000.00. This will help with the rain and snow. Hay Construction out of Marshalltown will do the work. We should get it done while we can. No building permit is needed. Also we need to try to figure a way to create a wind break on one side to stop the tunnel of wind. Give ideas to the trustees. Leon Lamer motioned and Stan Koster seconded the motion to pursue the awning project without delay. Motion passed.

PPR, Ron Groth- The doctors changed Pastor Dean’s medication, hoping this will give him more energy. Pastor Dean plans to be gone three months and will leave either around December 1 or January 1. While Pastor Dean is in Florida, Paul & Jennifer Daniel and Dean Messerly will fill the pulpit and will make up a rotation schedule. The board urged them to keep the schedule they make with little trading around. Ron emailed Jackie Bradford to get her approval and Jackie approved it. Prayer team meets at 8:30 am each Sunday, and Ron welcomes anyone to come join the team at that time. On Sunday, November 2nd, they had 12 people. PPR committee recommended to board about raising the salary of those who fill the pulpit up to $150.00 per week. Ron Groth motioned, seconded by Stan Koster, and motion carried.

YF, Marla Hlas- Kick-Off started in September with students, grades 7-12, encouraged to participate in all events. Bring friends! They had nine kids at the bonfire. They are reading the book “101 Lessons” by Kirk Cameron. In October they had the bike ride and lesson. The bike ride was a lot of fun. Thinking about offering some 6th through 8th grade events, Marla will try to do this by herself but it was suggested to let her know if she needs any help. Events will also be held for all age groups. All YF kids are invited to participate in the November 15 play that Marla Hlas wrote called “The Wedding.”
