When would property owners in the annexation area
receive their first tax statements from the City ofEdinburg?
The tax statements issued in October 2014 will be thefirst tax statements newly annexed residents wouldreceive from the City of Edinburg.
These taxes help pay for an array of City services suchas police protection, code enforcement, city election,emergency services, fire protection, library, parks andrecreation police and street and traffic departmentservices.

*Why do Cities Annex?Cities have various reasons for initiating annexation.These are a few examples:Annexation to provide areas for future growth:
Cities initiate annexation in order to provide areas for
future growth and development. This can be especiallycritical in cities with limited vacant, developableproperty to accommodate growth within its existingboundaries. Annexation to cover service costs for ETJ
residents using City services:As more and moreresidential areas develop within the ETJ, theseresidents begin to use the City's streets, parks and
other facilities without paying for these services.Annexation brings the added revenue to help coverthese service costs. Annexation to protect the public health & safety:
Cities initiate annexation to provide urbanizing areaswith municipal services and to exercise the regulatoryauthority necessary to protect public health and safety.

*What services will new residents receive?
The City will start providing fire, police, and otheremergency services immediately upon the dateof annexation. The City will perform routinemaintenance on local streets not under state or
county jurisdiction. The City also provides brushcollection, permit and inspection services,housing assistance, library services, mosquitocontrol and public information services.
The City will also provide new capitalimprovements when necessary to serve the area
at the same level as other parts of the City ofEdinburg with similar topography, land use andpopulation density. Edinburg residents areentitled to discounts and reduced fees onrecreation and athletic activities, as well asfacility rentals, solid waste services and waterand sewer rates.

* What school district will my children attend?
School district boundaries are not affected by apersons city of residence.
Residents whose children attend Edinburg CISD willcontinue to do so. School district boundariesfrequently overlap multiple city limit lines.
* Will my postal address change?
Existing street addresses will not change unless theCity or the Lower Rio Grande Valley Development
Council 911 Department determines there is a needfor a change from a rural route number to a city styleaddress. If a change is needed, the residents willbe notified of the process to change an address.
* What entity is responsible for establishing
taxable values for land the City of Edinburg may
annex in Hidalgo County?The Hidalgo County Appraisal District (HCAD)appraises all property in Hidalgo County.
*Will the City of Edinburg supply water service to
the newly annexed area?
Homes and businesses within annexation areas are
currently served by the City of Edinburg, SharylandWater Supply Corporation, and the North AlamoWater Supply Corporation service areas. By lawthese water suppliers are responsible for providingwater service within their respective service areasand the City of Edinburg within its own service area.
