Harmon, seconded by N. Bergeron, to approve the minutes of the last meeting as printed in the Howler. Motion passed. President’s Report: With the loss of Peggy O’Hare and Cheryl Zaic, the club has had some big holes to fill. Thank you to all who have stepped up to assist. Jim Zaic was introduced. Secretary’s Report: not available Treasurer’s Report: We have approximately $35,000 at this time. $7000 was donated this year. ( discussion was held regarding donations for this past year including the training and equipment for the new police dog in Cambridge, support of the Puppy Program at East Central Vet by providing funds toward the spay/neuter of dogs in the area, a donation of money for agility equipment for the Isanti County 4-H dog program, donation to the Cambridge-Isanti Hockey association for assisting with parking at the conformation show, Isanti County 4-H Dog program dor providing assistance with the CGC testing and also Take the Lead in conjunction of the cluster shows (reserved grooming and reserved pop-up tents) Delegate’s Report Wayne Harmon reported many good moves made by AKC. Change seems to finally begin to happen with the many years of complacency. The general feeling of the delegate body was to start moving forward rather than stay stagnated. Agility 2012 Our first trial went well with the efforts of Sue Kothe and the many club members that assisted. $3000 was the expected profit. Agility Summer 2013 We have been approved for summer trials for July 5,6 and 7 at the Vadnais Heights Sports Center. $2000 deposit has been made. Equipment will be provided for by Sharon Anderson and Sue Kothe. Sally Wuorness will serve as Hospitality Chair. Arrangement for storage of equipment will need to be made. Agility Winter 2013 The trial will be held on the corresponding weekend at On The Run. Spring Obedience 2013 Our spring obedience trial and rally will be held on April 6 and 7 at Total Recall. Volunteers are needed to steward. Please contact Carol Wirkkunen or Sue Kothe to volunteer. Your assistance is greatly appreciated and it is a great way to spend some time with the club members.

Minutes Continued… Fall Obedience 2013 Our fall trials will be held on August 17 and 18 at On The Run. Volunteers are needed to steward and assist with hospitality. Contact Gretchen Hofheins-Wackerfuss to assist. Legislation A the moment House and Senate bills are stuck in committees with the only chance of being enacted this year, is if added to an omnibus bill. The bills introduced will stay in committee and can be resurrected next year as we have a two year legislative cycle. Continue to contact your state representatives as ten intact dogs is not a workable num-ber. Old Business The second reading for new member was made and they are voted in as new member. Welcome to Karen Lawrence, Monica Strauss, Lorene French and Beth Gray. The nominating committee did not give an entire slate of officers to be elected. Tim Bergeron has asked to be put on the slate for treasurer, opening an one year position for president. Offices to be voted on this year include vice-president, treasurer and three board positions. New Business Information was circulated regarding the Vizla Club of America’s sponsorship of a seminar on May 1 “hijacking of the Humane Movement” to be presented by Patti Strand.

The Cambridge MN KC has made a $100 donation to Make-A-Wish through our spay/neuter program.

News from Sally Wuornos: Sonbar's Yoko Yodels just finished with her 3rd major, a 5 pointer

down at shows in K.C. She's our 114th home bred Ch.

Website’s are useful to most people, can be frustrating to others. Much like a business card, they give your visitors contact data and share a bit of information about you and your product or service. They also should provide current and relevant information to it’s users. I have maintained the CKMC website for a little over a year. I make updates as I receive them and I am always looking for new and current information from our members. I am always eager to update the site or add photo’s such as banquet photo’s or your dog photo’s to our site. Perhaps you have some new legislature, helpful tips or AKC news that we could share with others on our site or facebook? Event’s and activities I need to know about, so I can add them to our events schedule. If you notice events missing on our newsletter or website, please let me know and I will add them immediately. Do you wonder if any one is using our site? Are you curious about where our visitors are coming from? Here is a link to one month of our current activity recapping some of the statistics being gathered by our website tracker. March Website Stats The numbers for March are quite typical. I hope you find it informative. Our website, our newsletters, and our facebook page, are tools that are there primarily for you, our club member, to inform, share with one another and educate. If you have comments, submissions, concerns, updates, or corrections, on any of these three forms of media, please send them to me at: [email protected]

Thanks! Theresa A. Goiffon Secretary 715-689-2675

AKC Delegate Committee Meetings March 11, 2013

Dog Show Rules Committee A clarification was made by Gina DiNardo stating that Ch. 14 does cover the prohibition of wearing of pins and badges in the ring, including judges. The discussion of club territories will be dealt with by the board forming an ad hoc committee to repre-sent board, delegates and staff. A formal recommendation supporting the committee was passed. A class for altered veterans at dog shows was last discussed in 2008 and was voted down due to the purpose of judging breeding stock. A separate altered veteran’s class was discussed. A request to not have judges involved in the dog re-instatement/DQ process. Reps are AKC employees and should be included. Show giving clubs should be informed when an re-instatement is scheduled at their event. A motion passed to exclude judges from the entire DQ process. A report from the show cancellation sub-committee gave a comprehensive plan for the cancellation of an event. Areas that still need to be addressed is contract language for site and hotels. There will also be a recommendation requesting exhibitors that leave dogs in crates to provide a call name and cellphone number on a card attached to the crate. There is a possibility that an addition to the emergency plan that exhibitors would be given a copy of emergency numbers when arriving on site. A final report will be sub-mitted at the June delegate meeting. The reserve best in show program will continue with no changes recommended at this time. Judges are to mark their book first, then award reserve best in show followed by best in show. The committee has requested that an e-mail premium list and printed premium list be sent out five weeks before closing. The board will make the final decision. Removable of dates from ribbons recommendation from the committee has been reviewed by the board. They are recommending the date and location remain on BIS, RBIS and group ribbons. In verification of a win, the judge’s book is used first, followed by the steward’s book. The PeeWee class in Junior Showmanship was spoken to and the staff recommends the use of Regis-

tered Handler Program seminars to be used rather than adding a new level of competition. All-Breed Pee

Wee competition can qualify as a special attraction.

Continued: AKC Delegate Committee Meetings March 11, 2013

By-Laws Committee There is a inquiry for the possibility of electronic voting, which would replace written ballots. A discussion occurred regarding the make-up of the nominating committee. A request to have the by-laws changed to have “welfare of the dog” listed first in Article 19 regarding the purpose of the AKC. It is presently listed third after serving as a registry and compiling show records. The committee chose to not change the order. The delegate eligibility sub-committee suggested removing all restrictions on delegates. This would add professional handlers, superintendents, commercial brokers, commercial breeders and members of com-peting registries as eligible to be delegates. The discussion of felons and misdemeanors ensued. Theft and abuse of club funds was also discussed. A motion was made and passed to table the recommenda-tion.

Legislative Caucus PUPS should be amended to have a small breeder clause. On the state level, request that seized animals can remain at home, with a state over-seer until con-victed. Presently laws are written to charge you for boarding expenses at the time of charge and animals are often dispersed. If defects are disclosed, they should not be eligible for reimbursement for “lemon laws”. Terminology should be “transfer” rather than “sell” to include humane societies. Refer to the new Arkansas law that includes the words training and showing with the word livestock rather than animals to develop more pro-active legislation and combining into a much larger group to be protected. Farmers do understand they are the next targeted group. AVMA standards were never meant to cover home raised dogs. Make it a crime to fraudulently apply for a job and make it a crime to film at your job. Develop Responsible Dog Ownership classes at the community level. Information was provided by the njfederationofdogclubs.org The AKC Government Relations Legislative Update was also distributed. This is a monthly publication

available on the AKC website for information regarding all states.
