Welcome.Welcome to everyone who has shown an interest in our program and especially those who are at-tending our “ 8th Annual Bull Sale.”

The 2013 Bull Sale will once again be held on our Keith property at the “Eight Mile” sale complex. We feel this year’s bull draft is one of the most even lines we have produced. They display the great muscling, softness, doing ability and gentle dispositions for which Mandayen genetics have be-come well known. Once again both seedstock and commercial clients will be able to select genet-ics to suit both their individual needs and budgets.

Mandayens’ 2012 sale provided beef producers the opportunity to obtain high quality genetics at very reasonable prices. 72 bulls sold to a highest price of $21,000 with 32 sires selling within the $2500 to $4,500 price range. Purchasing quality, semen tested bulls that are guaranteed, perfor-mance recorded and developed in large contemporary groups is a sound investment in the future of your beef enterprise.

This year we will offer the first draft of sons sired by Wulfs Waldo, they are an impressive line of bulls with exceptional thickness, muscle and growth performance. Other sire lines include sons of the performance leader Hunt Mr Jock, an influential bull who consistently produces progeny with softness, structural soundness and quiet dispositions along the current number 1 bull in the coun-try for docility Mandayen Cookie Monster C1006.

Our large scale AI & ET programs, enable us to utilise the superior genetics of our top females. This gives our clients the opportunuty to secure cutting edge Limousin genetics to suit their own requirements. There are some exciting genetics amongst the bulls’ that offer breed leading perfor-mance EBV’s for calving ease, growth, carcase and docility.

The Lim-Flex bulls in this sale offer clients the best of both worlds in regards to the Limousin breeds’ muscle and yield capabilities and the easy care attributes of Angus cattle. They are the best line of hybrid bulls that we have ever offered and combine very easy keeping body types with muscle and solid performance data.

If you would like to see the bulls pre sale we will be having a field day in the Victorian Beef Week at the Mortlake Saleyards on Thursday the 31st of January. Our on property SA Beef Field Day will be held on Monday the 4th of February.

As part of the program we only sell registered Limousin cattle which have been docility scored and therefore have EBVs for docility. We also provide warranties for fertility and docility as fol-lows:

Fertility Warranty

BullsAll bulls sold as fertile and capable of natural service. The purchaser is to have the right to a full refund of the purchase price of the bull (excluding salvage value and any costs or expenses of the purchaser) within 12 months of the date of sale subject to submitting a veterinarian’s re-port stating that the bull is infertile or incapable of natural service. The veterinarian must state that in his/her opinion there is no evidence that the bull has suffered any illness or injury since being sold which could have affected his breeding ability. The veterinary report (together with a statutory declaration by the purchaser to the effect that the substance of the report is true and correct) must be forwarded to the vendor (with a copy to ALBS) within 14 days of the first anniversary of the sale date.

Docility WarrantyAll animals are sold as having acceptable docility as defined as a score 1, 2 or 3 in the official scoring system of the Australian Limousin Breeders’ Society. The purchaser is to have the right to a full refund of the purchase price of the animal (excluding any costs and expenses of the purchaser) within 28 days of the date of the sale or a replacement animal of similar quality and price is to be supplied by the vendor subject to submitting a veterinarian’s report stating that the animal is of unacceptable docility defined as score 4 or 5 in the official scoring system of the Australian Limousin Breeders’ Society.The veterinarian must state that in their opinion the animal has not been mistreated in a way which would have affected its behaviour since being sold to the purchaser. The veterinary re-port (together with a statutory declaration by the purchaser to the effect that the substance of the report is true and correct) must be forwarded to the vendor within 14 days of the date being 14 days after the sale date.

Stud TransfersAll animals are registered with the Australian Limousin Breeders Society and they are eligible for transfer within. We ask all purchasers of animals who require transfers to indicate this on your “Buyers Instruction Sheet”.

Buyers Registration and Sale ConditionsBuyers will be required to register with the selling agents prior to the commencement of the sale.They should display their registration number at the fall of the hammer when purchasing a sale lot.

All sale lots are sold exclusive of GST.

A 3% rebate is offered to outside agents who meet the following conditions.

1. Introduce their client in writing to the vendor by 5pm on the day prior to the sale

2. Accompany and assist their client on sale day

3. Settle within 7 days

Agents not meeting the above terms will receive 1% if settling for a client.

InsurancePurchases become the responsibilty of the buyer at the fall of the hammer. While all care will be taken by the vendors we recommend buyers insure their purchasers. The selling agents will have insurance representatives at the sale.

TransportTransport concessions are offered to all SA, Vic and NSW purchasers. This includes free delivery to central points as far north as Albury. Assistance to other buyers will be considered if needed.

GuaranteeIf a bull proves to be infertile or incapable of natural service within 12 months of the sale date, the vendor will credit the purchase price less the salvage value of the bull, provided the problem is not caused by injury or disease incurred since taking delivery. Any claims must be accompanied by a relevany veterinary certificate. The vendor reserves the right to obtain an independant veterinary assesment to confirm any claim.


EBV information

An Estimated Breeding Value (EBV) is an estimate of the genetic merit of that animal for each trait measured. EBVs are provided for the following traits.

Gestation Length EBV: Ranks sires for the time between conception and the birth of the calf. Shorter gestation is indicated by negative EBVs and longer by positive EBVs.

Birth Weight EBV: Indicates the genetic potential for birth weight. Positive EBVs indicate higher birth weights and negative EBVs indicate lower birth weights of progeny.

Milk EBV: An important component of fast growth to weaning is the dam’s maternal performance. A bull with a high milk EBV should produce daughters who milk well.

200, 400 & 600 Day Weight EBVs: Give an estimation of the animal’s genetic potential for growth.

Scrotal Size EBV: Indicates whether a bull will produce sons with above or below average scrotal sizes.

Carcase Weight EBVs: Indicates the genetic potential for heavier or lighter carcase weight of progeny.EMA and Rib & Rump Fat EBVs: Eye muscle area EBVs and Rib & Rump Fat EBVs are calculated from ultrasound scan measurements and indicate larger or smaller EMA and more or less fat in progeny.

RBY% EBV: Retail Beef Yeild as a percentage is calculated from the EMA and Rib & Rump Fat EBVs. Higher EBVs for EMA and lower EBVs for fat depth will give higher EBVs for RBY%.

Docility EBVs: This EBV is expressed as the increase or decrease in the percentage of progeny that will be scored as docile (score 1 and 2). Positive EBVs indicate a higher proportion of prog-eny that will be scored as docile and negative EBVs indicate a lower percentage of progeny being scored as docile.

Accuracies: Accuracies are presented with each EBV and give an indication of the amount of indi-cation of the amount of information that has been used in the calculation of that EBV. The higher the accuracy the lower the likelihood of change in the animal’s EBV as more information is anal-ysed for that animal and its relatives.

Protoporphria Status: PN tested free, PF free by pedigree, PC carries one copy of the defective gene for Protoporphria.
