“FOR THE RESIDENTS, BY THE RESIDENTS”

Have a great month! August 2013

Angel of August

She’s regal in splendor,

this angel of love.

Cascading her flowers from heaven above.

To fall from the sky, to land with her peace

The angel of August

Her heart always seeks

The flowers you gather, that fall from the sky

Her gift of the spirit

That soars way up high.

A scent in the air, a petal that lands

In velvet she greets you

Wherever you stand

She touches your soul, with all of her love

Sprinkles her softness

With joy from above

Look up to the sky, to see heaven’s light

It’s the angel of August

That gives such delight

So far this summer season we have not been threatened by any hurricane’s. We are blessed to be living in such a protected area away from all the high waters and the coastal areas that do get hit the most. We have had our occasions of hard rain with thunder and lightning from tropical storm’s..

REPORT ON TRAFFIC LIGHT !

IT IS A WORK IN PROGRESS!

In March, my contact at the Department of Transportation wrote to me that, “my

diligence in reporting the accidents at the junction of Route 98 and 301 is having

an impact”. I looked up “diligence” to be sure he wasn’t telling me I was just a

pest.

In April, I received the following e-mail from the Public Information Officer of DOT

that we had been approved for a traffic light and that temporary poles/lights will

be installed as quickly as possible, before the end of the year, if not sooner.

I cannot believe myself, I have become an “ambulance chaser” so to speak. Our

residents have called, stopped by and even found me playing cards away from

home. I have gone down to count cars, damages etc. to report the results of the

accident in details, so that my reports are factual.

On June 25th, I received the following e-mail from DOT…. Signal Systems Manager

states “ Traffic Operations are very concerned. Temporary poles are ordered,

preparation work has begun and the department expects the traffic signal to be

fully operational by the end of summer”.

It is the work and dedication of Southfork Home Owners Association that has

made this possible! As an individual sending e-mails, etc. I do not believe we

would have gotten the traffic light. It was because of sending OUR messages

representing FOUR Mobile Home Parks. PLEASE SHOW YOUR APPRECIATION BY

JOINING OUR ASSOCIATION SO THAT WE CAN MAKE OTHER GREAT THINGS

HAPPEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HURRICANE SHELTER LOCATIONS HERE IN PASCO COUNTY

From: Phyllis

This is something that I thought would be very helpful in case

of evacuation here at Southfork if we get any signs of Hurricane Warnings etc.

There are many other shelters in Pasco County but these are the closest to us.

Special needs shelters are available for persons requiring more skilled medical

care than is available in a public shelter, but not requiring an acute care facility,

such as a hospital. TO REGISTER FOR THIS KIND OF SHELTER CARE, IT MUST BE

MADE IN ADVANCE, PLEASE CALL THE SPECIAL NEEDS REGISTRY IN PASCO

COUNTY @ 727-847-8137

Here is a list of shelters to keep handy in case we have to leave our homes!

Centennial Middle, 38505 Centennial Road, Dade City

Lacoochee Elementary, 38815 Cummer Road, Dade City

Pasco High, 36850 State Road 52, Dade City

Raymond B. Stewart Middle, 38505 10th Ave., Zephyrhills

Saint Leo University, 33701 State Road 52, Saint Leo

Just some tips:

Stay away from downed power lines and avoid floodwaters. Always assume

that a downed power line is energized, and move away to safety.

Caution: Use portable generators safely. DO NOT connect your portable

generator to your home’s circuits. Also, portable generators must not be

operated near air conditioning ducts or in residences or any enclosed space

(including a closed garage or shed) where deadly carbon monoxide gases

could build up.

BE Safe AND NOT SORRY AND HEED ALL WARNINGS GIVEN!!!!!

Women’s Club

On July 3rd, 19 ladies met at the Village Inn for a nice meal and get together. We had a lot of

laughs along with a great meal.

Mary Bolin mentioned that we are sending money to Day Star, to help replace all the can

food items that we normally give them on a monthly basis at our regular meetings.

From July 15th to August 15th we will have a box at the clubhouse to collect school supplies

which we do annually. We count on your generosity, so please help!

It is hard to believe that the summer is half gone already, but we are surviving very well.

Next month, on August 7th at 10am, we will be going to Sunrise Eatery restaurant in

Zephyrhills. Please sign up so we know how many will be attending. We need a count to

make reservations.

See you there,

Marielle

“WANTED!!!

The by-laws of the Southfork Home Owners Association require that our financial records be audited semi-annually. This needs to be completed in August! We also need 3 members of the Association to volunteer to audit the first six months of 2013 financial records. No experience needed! Just a few hours of your time! Please contact Dot Cady, President of the Association.

the support group is amazing. Each week we have a topic that is discussed to help us on our way and

then a discussion after on the many do’s and don’ts to help all of us.

We have given out many bracelets and charms and on 7/6….Peggy Lare and Barb Christie got Perfect

attendance charms.

Newsletter Delivery Help Needed

JOHN & SANDY have been doing the delivery during the summer

months because we are short handed and it has been so appreciated.

Our Block Captain Chairperson, Doris Grandy, is in need of a block captain for Maverick Drive

and back ups for all other streets here in Southfork. The management/owners would like to

see the Newsletters and any other important information given for delivery to reach every

home here in the community and this helps all the homebound and sick so they have

delivery at their door..

So for every Street here in Southfork we need a “ Block Captain” and an “Alternate” in case

the Block Captain is not available. Coverage is especially needed when any of the Block

Captains are Snowbirds………………..So if you have a friend who likes to walk, this venture

should take no more the 15 minutes to a half hour every month and it will also give you a

chance to get in some exercise. (smile)

We need every street covered so please contact either Doris Grandy or Dot Cady and let them

know you are available to help.

EMAIL ADDRESS

My new email address is [email protected]. If you did not receive my email change then

I do not have your email address or it went into your spam folder because it did not recognize

the new address..

If anyone wants any sort of Southfork notifications that I send out, please send me your email

address. This also to be used for change or addition of phone directory information.

Thanks,

Phyllis

Thursday, July 4th at 5pm there were 37 people who showed up to a decorated. Red , White and

Blue theme to celebrate the great day of Independence here in the USA. Mary Bolin led

everyone in saluting the flag followed by a prayer.

Once the prayer was finished and before the food was served, Louise Murray started out with

11 people doing a “CANDY WALK” with music. Do you remember when you were a child and

the game of moving from one chair to another and the last one got no chair……well the eleven

people walked around the table with 10 plates on the table and when the music stopped one

person got a piece of candy that had no plate in front of them, 1 person got a $10 bill, two

others got a $5 bill and five others got a $1 dollar bill and the rest got a bag of candy. This was

done twice. This was something different and of course everyone was eagerly awaiting a prize

and great fun was had by all.

This was a potluck with many great items and everything was delicious and of course always

extra food and seconds were available. The Association provided Sloppy Jo’s, Chips,

Watermelon, Cake for Dessert and Iced tea. Following the dinner there was a game of “Corn

Hole” and the winners were Linda Rouer and Betty LaForest. They played against Jim and Sally

Auld. Both teams did a great job in throwing the bean bag’s and the score was almost even

until the end

There also was 50/50 and there were 2 winners of $14.50 each. Winners were, Tony Trubiano

and Phyllis Goodlad. A big Thank You to all the cooks and volunteers and any who helped in

any way! This was a team community event for all Association members and look for more in

the near future.

Southfork HOA is collecting Aluminum Cans, Newspaper and magazines.

Please use the recycling bids in the storage area!

A used aluminum can is recycled and back on the grocery shelf as a new can, in as little

as 60 days. That's closed loop recycling as its finest!.

Used aluminum beverage cans are the most recycled item in the U.S., but other types of

aluminum, such as siding, gutters, car components, storm windows frames, and lawn

furniture can also be recycled.

Recycling one aluminum can save enough energy to run a TV for three hours -- or the

equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline.

More aluminum goes into beverage cans than any other product.

Because so many of them are recycled, aluminum cans account for less than 1% of the total

U.S. waste stream, according to EPA estimates.

An aluminum can that is thrown away will still be a can, 500 years from now!

To produce each week's Sunday newspapers, 500,000 trees must be cut down.

Recycling a single run of the Sunday New York Times would save 75,000 trees.

If all our newspapers was recycled, we could save about 250,000,000 trees each year.

If every American recycled just one-tenth of their newspaper, we would save about

25,000,000 trees a year.

The average American uses seven trees a year in paper, wood, and other products

made from trees, This amounts to about 2,000,000,000 trees per year.

Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic

yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents

a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!
