loCAtionThe Nyack, NY, residential campus is set on a hillside overlooking the Hudson River and the Tappan Zee Bridge, only 23 miles from New York City. It neighbors the Village of Nyack, a charming and secluded community known for its res-taurants, antique and specialty shops. The campus consists of 65 acres and 31 college-owned buildings in a mix of Victorian and Tudor styles. Nearby are West Point, several Revolutionary War historical sites, and recreational activities includ-ing hiking, skiing, skating, boating, golf, and tennis. The New York City campus is located at Broadway and Worth Streets in lower Manhattan. New York City offers the Empire State Building, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, Chinatown, the Bronx Zoo, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, Broadway shows and plays, eight major professional sports teams, the U.S. National Tennis Center, shopping, museums, art, and culture.

Nyack College competes at the NCAA Division II level in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). We also compete in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) at the Division I level. The Warriors compete in 11 different sports:

As the softball season quickly approaches, the Nyack College softball team is hard at work honing their skills to take on their opponents in the 2011 season. Nyack welcomes 7 new play-ers who aim to get the Lady Warriors to the CACC playoffs this year. This young team is eager to play together and really build off of each other’s strengths. The strong camaraderie dis-played on this team will transfer into great chemistry on the field.

The pitching staff will showcase freshman Kia Jelley (Deerfield, MA).Kia Jelley begins her fresh-man year with the Warriors after an outstanding high school career at Northfield Mount Her-mon in Massachusetts. During her high school career she amassed over 500 career strikeouts from the mound and was named an All-Western Massachusetts selection her freshman and sophomore years and was named an All-Prep player as a Junior and Senior. Joining her on the mound will be freshman Alex Devries (Bay Shore, NY).Alexandra DeVries is a 3 sport Athlete who has garnered all-conference awards as a softball player, an All-County selection in bowl-ing and an All-League volleyball player. For the past 6 years and this summer, she has played travel softball with the Long Island Express.

Time behind the plate will be spent by Freshman Tesla Murillo (Indio, CA) She is strongly equipped to handle the Nyack pitching staff and has the ability to throw out any runner that is willing to test her arm. Also, seeing playing time around the diamond will be returner and Co-Captain Taylor Brown (Ellington, CT) Alex Devries (Bay Shore, NY) Kathleen McClain (New Haven, CT) and Bethany Reed (Tiverton, RI).

Our starting outfield for the 2011 season will be anchored by senior and co-captain Victoria Leonard (Newington, CT) Junior Natasha Brown (Seneca Falls, New York) and Freshmen Jackie Gonazolez (San Antonio, TX) and Becky Ferry (Rhinebeck, NY)

There are many ways to use the array of talent that the Lady Warriors have this season. How the season turns out depends on how much heart each one of these players are willing to give and the sacrifice they are committed to putting forth this upcoming season!

Coach Rodriguez begins his 3rd year as the Head Coach of the Warriors’ Softball Program after spending the previous 4 as an assistant coach on the softball staff

Rodriguez has spent the past 20 years as a member of the PRIDE travel soft-ball organization, which is a member of the Rockland County Hall of Fame. As a player and coach he was able to lead the team to numerous titles and has even competed against Puerto Rico’s National Softball Team in Puerto Rico as they were preparing to go play at the Pan Am games.

Rodriguez current serves facility manager at Living Christ Church in South Nyack. Joe and his wife Mercy reside in South Nyack with their daughter Mercyann.

ASSISTANT COACH

Dee Leone begins her 2nd year as an assistant coach for the Warriors softball pro-gram. Leone also serves as a PE in teacher in the Nyack Education department.

Leone also teaches PE at Nyack High School.

Prior to arriving at Nyack, she has umpired softball for 12 years and field hockey for 15 years.

ASSISTANT COACH

Danielle Palentchar begins her third season as an assistant coach for the Nyack Women’s softball program. Before joining the Nyack coaching staff, Palentchar played for the Women’s Softball program from 2004-2008 as their starting center fielder. She graduated from Nyack in 2008 with a bachelor’s in Elementary Edu-cation.

Palentchar is currently enrolled in the graduate program at Nyack College and is working on her Master’s degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Finance. She is to complete the program by the fall of 2011

2011 Summary: made 35 starts for the Warriors in her freshman campaign, posting a .941 Fielding percentage. Brown was also received the Nyack College Athletics “Iron Man” award.

As a four year varsity starter in the class 5A big school division she lettered in both softball and cross country while at Taft. While playing softball she helped her team win district championships and reach the state semi- fi-nals twice. Jackie was named to the EN all district team her freshman, junior and senior years, In the class room, she maintained a GPA of 3.4 and received the Academic of English Scholars award.

McClain comes to Nyack from West Woods Christian Academy where she was a 4- sport athlete, also playing volleyball basketball and soccer. Mc-Clain is capable of playing both third base and shortstop

Rebecca Ferry comes to Nyack by way of Rhinebeck High School where she won 2 NYS class C championships. Rebecca also was named an honorable mention all-star by the Poughkeepsie Journal and the Kingston Freeman.

Kia Jelley begins her freshman year with the Warriors after an outstanding high school career at Northfield Mount Hermon in Massachusetts. Murilo is a resident of Indio, California where she recieved multiple acco-lades including 1st Team,2nd Team, Honorable Mention, Best Defensive Player 2 Years in a row,All DVL, and 4Year Varsity Player and a Prayer War-rior.
