Scouts tell the truth. Scouts are expected to tellthe truth, keep promises and do their best. Whena mistake is made, Scouts own up to it, learnfrom it and do better in the future. A Scout hasself-respect and others respect them as well.

LOYALScouts are loyal to those to whom loyalty is due:family, friends, community and nation. Loyaltybegins at home; a Scout’s family can depend onthem. Scouts respect the flag, their governmentand participate in the democratic process.

HELPFULScouts care about other people. They volunteer tohelp without expecting payment or reward. They

fulfill their duties to their family by helping at home.Scouts learn how to be helpful and do so because

they care about people.

FRIENDLYScouts offer their friendship to people of all races,religions, and nations, and respect them evenif their beliefs and customs are different from

their own. Scouts treat others as they themselveswould like to be treated.

COURTEOUSScouts are polite to people of all ages and positions.Being courteous shows a Scout is aware of the

feelings of others. Scouts practice habits of courtesythat will stay with them throughout their life.

KINDScouts know there is strength in being gentle.

Scouts try to know and understand the needs andfeelings of others. They try to listen to others andimagine being in their place. Scouts are also

kind to pets, wildlife and the earth.

OBEDIENTScouts follow the rules of their family, school, andtroop and obey the laws of their community and

country. If they think these rules and laws are unfair,they seek to have them changed in an orderly way

rather than by disobeying them.

CHEERFULScouts look for the bright side of life. They cheerfullydo tasks that come their way and try their best

to make others happy, too. A Scout’s sense of joymakes everything easier for themselves

and those around them.

THRIFTYScouts save for the future. They protect andconserve natural resources. They are careful

in their use of time and property.Scouts volunteer their time and talent.

BRAVEScouts can face up to danger even if they are afraid.Scouts have the courage to stand up for what theythink is right, even if others ridicule or threatenthem. Scouts defend the rights of others.

CLEANScouts keep their body and mind fit. They are cleanin their personal habits. They choose friends whoalso live by high standards. They avoid profanity,pornography, racial or sexual comments. Theyhelp keep their home and community clean.

REVERENTScouts are reverent toward God. They understandfaith exists in the wonder of creation around them,in the kindness of others and in the teachings oftheir religion. They respect the beliefs of otherseven when they are different from their own.
