Dear Ms. Judd:
I’d like to begin this nomination with a story that illustrates the dedication and ethic that
Mitul Dasgupta has.
It was production night for our first issue of the year, “The Welcome Back” issue.
Historically, this is one of our most profitable issues. Tons of ads and design work were
involved and very many first time clients.
I get a call from our printer at 2:30 a.m. telling me that there is a glitch with their
software and for some reason it can’t read the pages. My skill set is sales and
management, not so much graphic design. Needless to say there was great concern.
I phoned Mitul about five minutes later. Thankfully she answered out of a dead sleep. I
explained what was going on and if she had any suggestions. Without hesitation she said
that if I could pick her up and take her to the office she would see what she could do.
At 5:00 a.m. she hung up the phone with our printer and submitted the final page.
Everything worked out and she single handedly save us over $15 thousand in make-
goods, much with new customers.
Managers often get the credit for the bottom line. Advertising representatives receive
accolades for a large sales contract. But designers tend to be in the background with little
fanfare and recognition in spite of being one of the most important forces for customer
satisfaction and retention. Nothing makes your customers happier and return for more
business than superbly designed advertisements and great customer service.
Mitul Dasgupta is one of the most conscientious and friendly team members we have.
Her patience and understanding with customers’ demands has retained countless clients.
Many who contact me, praise her for designing creative so quickly with vague and
nebulous direction in such a professional manner.
Ms. Dasgupta was the lead designer of the complete redesign of our media guide, our
most important sales tool. She effectively and creatively blended the look and feel of a
broadsheet newspaper with a traditional media kit. This approach has been enormously
successful in marketing our newspaper to national agencies and local companies.
It is my honor to nominate Mitul Dasgupta as Designer of the Year.
Sincerely,
Sean Kardux

To Whom It May Concern:
When Mitul Dasgupta was hired as a graphic designer at The News Record, she showed
instant dedication, determination and talent. She has always made herself available to the
staff and was willing to work in any design capacity – from editorial design to advertising
design.
As her tenure with The News Record continued, Mitul’s excellent performance in
designing advertising continued to be enhanced. Since becoming the primary designer for
the business department, in-house advertising has been taken to a new level and has made
unused white space more visually attractive to readers and advertisers.
Mitul has proven to be one of the most reliable members of our small staff. She’s made
herself available to the editorial production and design staff in her off time in case there
are any issues. If she’s needed, she makes it a priority to come to the office as quickly as
she can.
Because of her keen eye for advertising design and her dedication to The News Record’s
continued improvement, I nominate Mitul Dasgupta for CNBAM’s Student Designer of
the Year.
If you have any additional questions or if I can be of any help, please do not hesitate to
contact me.
