1918 - Kiwanis Club of Atlanta - 2016 Celebrating 98 Years of Service to Atlanta APRIL 12, 2016 HONORABLE KASIM REED, Mayor City of Atlanta “State of the City” Kasim Reed is the 59th Mayor of the City of Atlan- ta. Since taking office, he has hired more than 900 po- lice officers and created the largest police force in the city’s history, re-opened all of the city’s recreation centers as safe havens for young people and improved fire-rescue response times. He successfully initiated a series of sweeping reforms to address the city’s $1.5 billion unfunded pension liability. Beginning his term with a $48 million budget shortfall; the city has had four years of balanced budgets with no property tax increases, and its cash reserves have grown from $7.4 million to more than $127 million. Mayor Reed has received numerous accolades since taking office and his civic leadership and service have been nationally recognized on major news outlets and publications including. He has been a guest speaker at numerous national and international conferences and is a champion for Atlanta and the State of Georgia, serving on a number of advisory committees. Prior to his election, Mayor Reed established a track record of leadership during his 11 years as a member of the Georgia General Assembly. He is a former part- ner of Holland and Knight LLP. Mayor Reed is a graduate of Howard University, where he received his BA and JD degrees and an hon- orary Doctor of Laws. He enjoys attending sports events, reading and spending time with his family. He lives in the Cascade community with his wife and daughter and is a member of Cascade United Method- ist Church. Victor Galier served as Pastor of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone and as parochial vicar at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Atlanta. He re- ceived a bachelor’s degree in natural science with a mi- nor in philosophy from St. Meinrad Seminary and at- tended St. Vincent Seminary where he earned a M.Div and was ordained a priest in 1998. In 2010 he returned to school at Boston College School of Theology & Min- istry and earned a ThM focusing in Catholic Social Teaching. Fr. Vic has been a Catholic Relief Services Global Fel- low since 1997 and traveled internationally. He is an avid tennis player and endurance athlete, completing 4 full Ironman distance triathlons and 5 marathons. RABBI WILLIAM L. ROTHSCHILD Ogier, Rothschild & Rosenfeld, PC Bill Rothschild was born in Atlanta, the son of Rabbi Jacob and Janice Rothschild. He graduated from the Westminster Schools, Yale College, and Harvard Law School, and then received his rabbinic ordination from Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion. After a short stint as a pulpit rabbi in New Rochelle NY, he returned first to the practice of law, and then home to Atlanta. Since 1993 Bill has taught Bible part time at Westminster, along with his law practice. Bill is married to Brenda Wise Rothschild, and together they have three children and three grandchildren.
