Moved to Madrid and studied at CentralUniversity of Madrid.

Other activities include:

1. Taking lessons in painting and

sculpture at the Academy of SanFernando

Filipino students who formed theSpanish-Filipino Circle.

Wrote They Ask Me For Verses asrequested by the circle.

Rizal joined the Masonry and 1890became a Master Mason

Rizal admired Luna and Hidalgo on

their master pieces, Spoliarium andChristian Virgin Exposed to thePopulace, respectively.

At the banquet, Rizal made aspeech and assailed with refinedsarcasm the bigotry and blindnessof some unworthy Spaniard in thePhilippines.

kept busy writing his novel andworked as an assistant of a notedFrench ophthalmologist, Dr. Louis

de Weckert

Made occasional visits to theTaveras and Juan Luna whilesojourning in Paris

While in Heidelberg, Rizal had the

privilege to work in a clinic of anoted Polish ophthalmologist, Dr.

Javier Galezowsky.

Before he left Heidelberg, Rizal

wrote an ode entitled To TheFlowers of Heidelberg.

In Leipzig, Rizal came to know Dr.

Hans Meyer, eminent German scholar,who once visited the Philippines in1882 and had started corresponding

with Dr. Ferdinand Blumentritt, anoted ethnologist.

In Dresden, he met Dr. Adolf B. Meyer,a zoologist and ethnographer.

In Berlin, Rizal worked in the medicalclinic of Dr. Schulzer, a renownedGerman eye specialist.

He came to know Dr. Feodor Jagor, aGerman scientist and author of thebook entitled Travels in thePhilippines which Rizal read withinterest during his student days inManila.

Rizal came to know German way of

living e.g. self introduction duringsocial gatherings, social security,national unity, and observance of

Christmas, among others.

Noli Me Tangere came off the press in

March,1887 with the help of Dr. Viola.

5 years of sojourn in Europe.

While in Calamba, Rizal practiced his

profession , opened a gymnasium, andwitness the land ownership dispute.

Summoned by Gov.Gen. Terrero andoffered the civil guard Jose Taviel deAndrade
