If you don’t remember how something works when you are

taking the test, click on the Help button that is in the NCDesk program. It is there for that reason.

NCDesk is a collection of

small Java programs that

replicate common

applications. These are the

five applications – they do

not function as completely

as Microsoft Word, Works

or Excel that we use in

class. They are similar.

Several PowerPoint

slideshows are available

for you to see how the

applications work. Now,

let’s learn more about

Editor.

Word Processors are for creating reportstyping letterswriting essays, and other similar tasks.

All word processors have similar features. There several skills you need for word processing, but all are fairly easy to master. If you READ your instructions carefully, this portion of the test should be easy. Check your work before you click NEXT.

Strike-through is seldom used for anything other than to show editing suggestions or legal documents.

Subscript is often used in Science and Math where the number or letter has to drop down (like a SUBmarine drops down under the water) from the other letters, like in H2O.

Superscript is also often used in Science and Math where the number has to fly above (like a SUPERhero flies above buildings) the other numbers or letters, as in “the right angle of a triangle measures 90º”.

Line spacing:

Be sure to check out the 3 types of line spacing you will be seeing in the next slides. The look of NCDesk is different from Word or Works. Really pay attention, you need to be able to recognize and to format the text for appropriate line spacing!

13 Editor

You need to know how to set your line spacing. If you are asked to double space, they mean to double space between lines, not words.

Highlight/select the text that needs to be double spaced, then use the Format Paragraph Menu, or the double space button.

Do not use the return key on the keyboard to double space.

BoldItalics

UnderlineBold makes the text thicker and darker. Don’t assume something is bold make sure that it is.

Italic tilts the text so that it slants. It is often used to emphasize something.

Underline is exactly what it sounds like it can also be used to identify something like a book title.
