Community C6 HAMODIA 13 AV 5772 AUGUST 1, 2012 Shivah of Harav Elyashiv Marked The end of the shivah of Hagaon Harav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, zt”l, was marked last Wednesday morning, with family members and close talmidim going to the kever of the Rav on Har Hamenuchos. A kesivas sefer Torah was started on Wednesday in mem- ory of Harav Elayashiv. Yahrtzeit of Koidenover Rebbe Observed The yahrtzeit of the Koidenover Rebbe, zt”l, fell on Thursday night and Friday, 8 Av. His grandson and succes- sor, the Koidenover Rebbe, shlita, of Bnei Brak, led the tefillos at the kever of his grandfather in Bnei Brak’s Zichron Meir Cemetery on Friday. A yahrtzeit seudah was held on Thursday night in conjunc- tion with a siyum on all of Shas made by the bachurim of the main Koidenover beis medrash in Bnei Brak. During the tisch, attended by a large crowd of chassidim, Rebbes and Rabbanim, the Koidenover Rebbe spoke, delivering many divrei Torah of his illustrious grandfather. Harav Shmuel Kamenetsky Visits Moscow Harav Shmuel Kamenetsky, shlita, Rosh Yeshivah of Philadelphia, went to Moscow this week where he will visit the local kehillah and mosdos. Harav Kamenetsky has been visiting Moscow regularly since 2005, and hundreds of people seek his guidance and brachos during his visits. Accompanying the Rosh Yeshivah will be members of Operation Open Curtain, who have been running mosdos in Moscow since 1991. The group will spend this coming Shabbos, Shabbos Nachamu, in the Etz Chaim camp with local Rabbanim and community leaders. Next Sunday the Rosh Yeshivah plans to attend a hachnasas sefer Torah in the Bais Ahron shul. Yahrtzeit of Slonimer Rebbe Marked The yahrtzeit of the Nesivos Shalom of Slonim, zy”a, was observed last Thursday, 7 Av. The Slonimer Rebbe, shlita, the son and successor of the Nesivos Shalom, conducted a yahrtzeit tisch in the main Slonimer beis medrash in Meah Shearim, and on Thursday afternoon he traveled to the kever of his father on Har Hazeisim to daven on behalf of Klal Yisrael, together with many chassidim. Thousands Travel To Arizal’s Kever in Tzfas Thousands, including many Rebbes and Rabbanim from around the country, went to Tzfas last week to daven at the kever of the Arizal on his yahrtzeit, 5 Av, The Arizal, Harav Yitzchak Luria, zt”l, was undisputedly the greatest expounder of Kabbalah since Rabi Shimon bar Yochai, author of the Zohar. He was born in Yerushalayim in 5294/1534, was niftar on 5 Av 5332/1572, and was buried in the old ceme- tery in Tzfas. Yahrtzeit of the Dezher Rebbe Marked The 50th yahrtzeit of the Dezher Rebbe of Williamsburg, zy”a, was on Sunday, 10 Av. The Rebbe, Harav Yosef Paneth, zt”l, was one of the foremost Rebbes in Williamsburg after World War II. He founded a beis medrash and rebuilt the Dezher court. The Rebbe was survived by his sons, the Dezher Rebbes, zt”l, and his sons-in-law, lead- ing Rabbanim and Rebbes in their own right: Harav Naftali Tzvi Halberstam of Bobov, zy”a; Harav Tzvi Hirsh Meizlish, Rav of Veitzen, zt”l; Harav Elazar Meizlish of Ujhel, and others. The Rebbe is buried at Beth Moses Cemetery in Long Island, and many descendants traveled to his kever on the yahrtzeit. The yahrtzeit seudos were held on Motzoei Tishah B’Av, Sunday night, by his many descendants the world over. Yahrtzeit of Pupa Rebbe To Be Marked The 28th yahrtzeit of the Pupa Rebbe, the Vayechi Yosef, zt”l, will be marked on Wednesday, 13 Av. Many chassidim will travel to Kiryas Pupa to participate in the tisch, presided over by the Rebbe’s son and successor, the Rebbe shlita, who will lead the tisch and deliver divrei Torah in memory of his father. All day many will go to the Rebbe’s kever and at noon, the Rebbe shlita is slated to lead the tefillos at the kever. Annual Meeting of Mifal HaShas in Bnei Brak Dozens of Roshei Yeshivos attended the annual meeting of the Presidential Council of Mifal HaShas in Yeshivas Slabodka in Bnei Brak last Friday, hosted by Harav Amram Zaks, shlita, a leading member of the presidi- um and one of the Roshei Yeshivah of Yeshivas Slabodka. Hagaon Harav Aharon Leib Steinman, shlita, opened the event. The Sanz–Klausenburger Rebbe of Eretz Yisrael, shlita, chairman of Mifal HaShas, dis- cussed the loss of many promi- nent Gedolei Yisrael who were close to Mifal HaShas: Hagaon Harav Yosef Shalom Elyashiv, zt”l, the Vizhnitzer Rebbe, zt”l, Harav Chaim Pinchas Scheinberg, zt”l, the Nadvorna Rebbe, zt”l, and Harav Menashe Klein, Ungvar Rav, zt”l. Later, Harav Eliyahu Shmuel Schmerler, Rosh Yeshivah, Sanz in Netanya, outlined the curricu- lum for all the programs of Mifal HaShas for the coming year. Yahrtzeit of the Ach Pri Tevuah to Be Observed This Thursday, 14 Av, will mark the yahrtzeit of Harav Tzvi Hersh of Liska, zt”l, commonly referred to as Reb Hershele Lisker, and by the name of his sefer Ach Pri Tevuah. The Lisker Rav was revered both for his vast Torah scholarship and for his ability to connect with the com- mon man of Hungary in the 1800s, the era of his leadership. In his lifetime Chassidus real- ized growth and acceptance on the entire Hungarian landscape. This year as every year, Liska chassidim to whom his memory is dear will be commemorating his yahrtzeit. His grandsons, the Lisker Rav, Harav Tzvi Hersh Friedlander, and his brother the Hivnover Rav, Harav Avrohom Friedlander, will be conducting the annual yahrtzeit tisch in the Liska beis medrash in Boro Park. The seudah will be attended by descendants of the Liska dynasty.
