Area of Operation Target Area: 20 million haTotal identified districts:133 in 12 following StatesAndhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh,Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh,Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal 8. SRI in NFSM

• 5 million ha (25% of the total target area under NFSM) is being targeted for promotion of SRI through:

• - Demonstrations

• - Farmers Field Schools

• - Conoweeders and othermechanical devices

9. Field Demonstrations

• Targeting5 million ha rice area under upland and assuredirrigation

• 50,000 demonstrations from 2008-09 to 2011-12

• 10,000 demonstrations in 2008-09

• One demonstration (0.4 ha) at every 100 ha area

• Rs. 3000/- per demonstration for critical inputs and incidental charges for scientist

• Rs. 150 million have been allocated for field demonstrations

10. Farmers Field School

• 5,000 Farmers Field Schools during 2008-09 to 2011-12

• One FFS atevery 1,000 ha of rice area

• 30 farmers in each FFS

• 10 weekly sessions of training through two trainers, each session lasting for five hours

• Rs 85 million have been allocated for Farmers Field Schools

11. Conoweeders

• Weeds are the major constraint in SRI

• 1 million conoweeders will be promoted during 2007-08 to 2011-12 to meet the anticipated demand

• Rs 1350 million have been allocatedto supportfarmers purchase of conoweeders

12. Some Challenges..

• Development of Curriculum of SRI for training

• Increased labour requirement

• Weed management

• Availability of power for assured irrigation

• Knowledge sharing for adopting the global best practices
